Good criteria for adwords keywords?

There seems to be an awful amount of confusion on this topic and it's no wonder people can't understand the lingo - me included!
At the minuet, I'm under the presumption that a good keyword from adwords keyword tool used for content to earn revenue from adsense is as follows:
Is this correct? Or have I been wasting my time on some very hard to beat keywords! Thanks :-)

- High AVG. CPC
- High advertiser competition
- High monthly search volume
- direct competition in google below 100,000
Is this correct? Or have I been wasting my time on some very hard to beat keywords! Thanks :-)
