How to determine micro-niche SEO competition?

Hello.

I have learned that determining SEO competition could be a little bit different when talking about small niches.

I heard that the KeywordElite tells you pretty much what is going on and I'm considering buying it.

The fact is i want to quickly get a general idea on a niche keyword, and determine whether i can quickly get into page 1 in the google results.

I don't really care much about the rest, as i have good plugins and free tools that do the job pretty well.

Anyone has some experience regarding what i asked?

Thank ahead,
YAT.

I have both KWE (old version) and MNF. I like MNF. It is clean and simple. Has some good features like Brainstorming, Hot Trends and Filters. Once you get a list of keywords, you can just check the SOC (strength of competition) column where they are ranked Green, Orange or Red (plus numbered) which shows how hard the kw will be to rank for. Green means go, orange means it will be more difficult to rank for and red means forget it. So just look Green and under 50 and you are good to go.

Its easy to spend a lot of money on tools and software with IM. An idea might be to check out:

    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

See how many 'exact' searches received for the keyword. Type the keyword within "" on google.com to see the number of competitors.
If the first page has a number weaker competetion, sites with less PR and authority go for it.

No don't do that, that just tells you the amount of pages that have that keyword in that order. It does not say anything about competition.

Type your keyword in like any normal searcher would do.

      Download seoquake

Look at the backlinks for each result on page 1 and then determine the competition. Can you beat their backlinks?
