Angela recommends using the same keyword for every backlink to a webpage, but I've heard people say it's better to mix things up. Just wondered what people's opinions were? Do you usually use exactly the same keyword for every backlink and put exactly the same keyword for the 'title' tag also?

Thanks,
Chris

I use various anchor text when backlinking but I think it depends on what you are trying to accomplish, IE: How many keywords are you trying to rank for, etc... .

Mix it up. The whole use the same keyword was a method back in 2004 and sites ended up getting seriously kicked in the ass by google and others for doing so.

Mix it up based on the page, what its about, what its related too, look at variations.

Jon's right. You need to mix it up as you go along. Another benefit of trying to mix the keywords up is, in the long run, you're site is going to end up ranking better AND it'll do so for a larger number of keywords.

And since that is directly proportional to the traffic you're getting, i think it'll benefit you greatly.

It's easy in Angela's case cause she only targets the keyword "Angela" which has no lsi. Personally i do think that it's still better to mix it up with similar lsi keywords.

Are you asking this question before you start actually building links yourself? Because that's the wrong way to go about it entirely. The best thing you could do is to start building links and see where it gets you. Start by using one specific keyphrase for a couple weeks. If that doesn't get you anywhere then try switching it up.

Action will always be more useful than opinions.

What about for internal page backlinking? If I have ten articles pointing to the index page, each targeting a specific keyword, would you recommend using the same keyword for each article page but building links for all the pages?
