Backlinks- where to point them to

Have a website with a main page PR4 optismised for 3 long tail keyphrases.
Setting up other pages aiming at other keyphrases.
My main question is should I still send all backlinks to the main PR4 page, or send some to the separate pages using the anchor text links as applicable to the content/ keyphrase.
Also is it best to keep these other pages within the main URL or set up separate one page sites with keyword specific URLs

Well confused , info overload, need people who have been there done it worn the tshirt to put me on the right path and I know theres plenty of them here.

  • Where to point backlinks you say? mmm always point them to a good landing page, unless you are doing adsense in which case I would work on providing quality content and placing an ad unit above the fold and right after the article either an email request form (for email marketing) or an ad for CPA offer....

    But to answer your main question, it would be best if you had a list of keywords you want the main page to rank for, if you build back links with the main keyword in the anchor I would point all of those links to the home page... and if you build long tail keywords I would point those towards inner pages that are relevant to the long tail, that way you get the best of both worlds, broad terms pointing to your index and relevant long tails pointing towards your inner pages

    • YOU ARE WRONG! You do not JUST point them to your home-money page! You should NEVER just go to the money page!!!

      You use internal pages with links and you link the articles together in a daisy chain so to speak! You get three links--- MAKE THE BEST USE!

      I am writing a report on just this issue that will be out by the weekend. I am so tired of seeing people that are members of Link Racer make mistakes I need to help... I am more worried these improperly made links in lots of instances will cause MY USERS to get screwed up links and thus not get the SERP effects they need....

      I know this is not a full explanation but, I am not going to write a paper in this post... You never link just one url---

  • You should always make some links to your internal pages. In this way you can see good results.
  • you can direct your links to your internal pages if you want them to get rank as well
  • The homepage is where most IMers will point their backlinks too, but all too often they don't realize sending them to internal pages is just as important.

    The money page is always good, but don't forget about your other pages too. Since I started building backlinks that point to all of my pages, I have seen an increase in the SERPs and in traffic. And this traffic is organic, obviously..

  • To get the most out of your authority sites, you should always create a lot of contents, and each article should target for one decent search volume of long tail keywords.

    While your category page should target for higher search volume and much competitive keyword, you should always build backlinks to your main page, category pages and some of your content pages.

    You don't build link for the sake of building it, the page should target for traffic and sales, makes all links worth the effort!

    After your site receive enough page rank and link juice, all those articles would rank high and getting tons of natural traffic!

    • I link to inner pages. But on the inner page, I only have one link back to the home page with the anchor text being the keyword I want the main page to rank for.

      I also submit an article to around 400 directories for each inner page on my smaller sites.

  • I would always focus on the home page when promoting a new website. As your authority builds on that page the rest of the keywords and other pages on your site become more important. Once you achieve a PR that you are happy with you could definitely start backlinking to internal pages to improve those pages PR.
