Can anyone tell me if it's good to use wordpress as a website. Does it help in getting the site ranked quicker. Also is it better to buy a design for it or go for a free design?

thanks

    • Very helpful & user friendly.
  • Word press is great tool, you'll do well well with it! Google loves this
    platform.

Don't forget to add the seo plugin because this will help you to get
    better rankings.

    • Hi Beepers88,

Wordpress is a great tool as far as blogging platforms go, it's not bad for regular websites as a CMS.

I think you have the wrong idea about what it takes to get ranked well, it's not the tools that you use that gets you ranked, but what you build with those tools. You can build a piece of crap that never gets indexed, or a top ranked site with virtually any tool that you choose.

  • You don't have to buy template for better seo rank, but there is a lot of useful plugins like:
    all in one seo
    headspace
    xml sitemap
  • I use it for all of my websites, and it's great. I also use the All in One SEO Plugin, which also works well.
  • wordpress optimizes great with the search engines...usually load quickly, and have simple code.
  • I have been using Wordpress the way you would use a website and I find it to be very beneficial because of the feedback that I receive from my visitors. It also allows you to be very creative and innovative with all the plug-ins that are available.
  • I've been using WooThemes for blogs and websites. Wordpress was a blogging platform five years ago, today, it really is a full on CMS.

  • Its the best thing since sliced bread. Just integrate some good plugins like XML sitemaps, Easy AdSense, Google analyticator etc and away you go.

The majority of my sites are WordPress based and Im converting a lot of static HTML sites over becuase it is soo easy to manage them and saves me a great deal of time.

    Good luck.

  • If i want to get a text-orientated site up quick i use wordpress as its so easy to grab a template and then just add a logo or header. However, for anything "unique" I hadn code php/html to make it totally individual.
  • Using WordPress is a better idea. It has many custom plugins and free themes. It is also easy to use and administrate.
  • The answer actually would depend on the types of functions you plan to provide to your users on your website. But, if you are talking about a primarily content-based website, then the answer is 'Yes'. Wordpress can do just about anything as long as you choose your plugins and themes wisely. Using Wordpress for content sites can dramatically shorten your development times and costs as well as make your marketing efforts (SEO, link building, etc.) significantly easier.
