Hey guys. Does adding your url to Bing and Yahoo cost money? If not, do they rank sites differently unlike google?

Yahoo and Bing definitely do things differently. For a hobby blog of mine where I write about classic books, Google loves me and has more than 300+ pages indexed and sends me traffic everyday.

Yahoo apparently isn't as impressed and has indexed 18 pages. Bing even less so, they have 2(!) pages from my blog indexed.

I don't try to make money off this, it's purely a hobby, so I've never bothered with backlinking, SEO, or anything, but it clearly illustrates that the search engines are different.

Oh, no. They only help our site to index too. They are a competitor of Google. If you want to know. Try to install seoquake on your laptop or PC.

I have created websites exactly the same way. A good portion show up on the first page of google the rest page 2 or 3. I have a couple of websites that will not go below 200th place on google. Guess what one is first place in Bing and the other is first place in Yahoo. I can't figure it out. If you find out let me know.

and read there FAQ, all big directories consult with dmoz directory.

As with Bing, I found that it indexed my old sites quickly. However, it is not as generous with my new sites.

For Yahoo, it will quickly index you as you build links. It indexes your backlinks faster than Google. Also, Yahoo still follows the links with a nofollow tag.

Get a lot of high PR backlinks (PR 5 above), that would greatly help your new sites' indexing. New sites require "trust" rank. This is the main reason why new sites have limited traffic and keyword ranking even with a lot of backlinks!
