It tends to happen to newer sites. Often referred to as the Google dance where your site jumps around all over the place, anywhere from page 1 to page 10,267 the next day. Happened to my sites often. It's strange but a norm. Ultimately a site will find stability after a while though. How old is your site?

It's happening pretty much with everyone lately, the older your website the more stable the rankings are. You will came in rankings back in next few days or weeks. There is high possibility that it will rank even better after the google dance.

Just get more authority backlinks (PR 5 and above) and your site will be back, pretty soon!

Happened to me. I left it for a few days and everything went back to normal. This is quite normal for new sites. Leave it and create more sites.

EDIT: Even if it is not new, leave it and create other sites so you will have more sites making you sales.

      Hi jimkirk1943,

Yes, the Google dance happens to all sites from time to time, regardless of age. Google does data refreshes and also experiments with new ranking algorithms which makes all sites subject to these dancing rankings.

You can look at this as a lesson, don't rely exclusively on search engine rankings for your traffic. You might want to start building high quality backlinks. High quality backlinks, in my opinion, are the type of backlinks that generate direct link traffic as well as potential SE rankings. Search engines are responsible for only about 25% of all website traffic. Perhaps it is time to diversify your traffic sources.

Disagree with this, you should continue your work on your website even if it suffers google dance.

One of my theories is that google does the dance to see are your backlinks growing naturally or are you building them your self. Most people stop building backlinks if they suffer google dance or sandbox, but if you continue to work with your site as much as you did before google dance or sandbox, it will look only more naturally. And google will love that.

There's nothing I love more than "naturally growing" backlinks

Anyhow ... Theres the Google DANCE [ hate that term ] and then there's the Google "LIMBO" - where you go so low in the serps - like page 100! you wonder - ohhhh snap what could I have done!

Dancing around 20-30 spots in the index is one thing - dropping like a rock from page 1 to page 101 [ in 10 serp increments ] is quite harrowing - though the end result is many times the same.

1/12/2010 I too experienced such a tramatic G-Limbo Dance. Page 112. Will never forget that ... from page 1 ... #4 to .. page 112 - instantly over night for 3 weeks. Back on page one now - and better than ever - but it was sketchy while it lasted.

Keep us posted as to how long it takes to get back. Look at your backlinks profile - if you've had a bunch of links vaporize recently - could be it, but you will likely stabilize near where you were. Can only suggest what I did and that was to build more links - just as I always had been. 100 here - there a week or as time permitted. I dont backlink on any type of schedule other than when I can get around to it.

Hang in and keep rockin' and keep us posted.

          Hi 4morereferrals,

I think you must have meant to say position #112, right? Google has never returned more than 100 pages in their search results.

It seems this is happening to older sites too. My site is six years old. Usually number 9, 10 or 11. I started building a bunch of links to it and now it is nowhere to be found in google. People keep saying that you can send as many links as you want to an older site without a problem. I have found this to not be true in my case.

    Good luck,

    Brad

It's the Google dance if it has lost many rungs of positions or the Google sandbox if it's nowhere to be seen but still remains indexed. Whatever the case never stop your backlinking efforts to your site. Don't rely too much on one website to generate your income so this may be a good time to add a few more. Also when your site comes back to the SERP, do more regular backlinking to this site and maintain a pace that you can keep up with. That helps in making your site seem to grow links more naturally.

It could be the new Google Caffeine kicking in. It was suppose to start after Christmas. I've heard reports of it starting to hit on each coast right now. It could be that....or just anther dance.
