Once you've posted your link on the profile, is it worth pinging it, or do you just let the back link be found 'naturally'

cheers

Mate seriously its a job in itself getting the links indexed ! YES you have to ping it and any other method you can find that works, these links can take forever for google to find naturally if they ever find them without pinging ect.. because theres very little food for the google spiders to come for no article no nothing. I have to outsource the profile building so i can get busy doing my thing to get them indexed !

It depends on the website. If the website had a direct link to your profile, you don't have to ping it.

However, we are not sure... especially when you implement the double pass method from Terry Kyle, you need to be sure - ping it, turn them into rss feeds and submit it to rss directories.

Get yourself a copy of both Backlink Booster and Backlink Indexer Express. They are both available in the WSO section.

I run all of my profile links through them and if I was to hazard a guess I'd say about 80-85% of them get indexed as a result.

I then create an RSS feed of the ones that still aren't indexed and submit the feed to RSS aggregators and also run it through Bookmarking Demon.

Some of them tend to be quite stubborn but a combination of the above methods will generally get most of them indexed.

I just pinged it and it works pretty good.

I am not judged by the number of times I fail, but by the number of times I succeed. And the number of times I succeed Is in direct proportion to the number of times I can fail and keep trying.

You do realize that more and more forums are banning/deleting this sort of profile spam and reporting the sites doing it to Google via their spam report tool as using this method to spam forums to get backlinks?

In my network of forums, up to a dozen sites get reported to Google by staff. Google have a blog post about not doing this, so assume that they either have or will soon have some sort of scalable algorithm change to deal with this.

Yeah but how can you prove its spam? Google wont take any direct result, they will use the info for future algo updates etc though

Way to answer the OP... Why does every thread on here get hijacked.

Reporting to google isn't going to do squat to your inidivual sites. the purpose of the reporting was to help google fine tune its rank calculations generally (not specifically for your site). Sort of like how Google has tackled the blog comment spam over the last many years... cough ;-)

A whole dozen?!!?? ;-) If a dozen links represents a lot, then you need to beef up the backlinking. The answer, is to just put up tons of links. There will be link attrition with any type of links other than links you put on domains that you actually own yourself?

To the OP, as Pat already suggested, I recommend looking at both Backlink Booster and Backlink Indexer Express.
