Keyword.com - This has to be clarified!

Hi all,

I cannot get over this and has kept me awake and pondering for I dont know how many nights.

I have found literaly HUNDREDS of keywords ( all with low SOC on mnf ) with nice exact searches and all global searches over 3000.

I realize very often that the picture in lets say market samurai of the top 10 pages on google is PR : 5-2 with ocasional 1 and 0. WITH backlinkg directly to the sites. BUT....there is a BUT and a big one. In 95% of the above menitoned keywords is KEYWORD.COM or KEYWORD.NET - with NO , ZERO, NADDA, NIÅ TA, backlinks...often in the top 3 if not the #1 position. The page itself is a 1 site/page with hardly a 400 word article on it.

How is this possible. The only explanation is the imense power of the keyword in tact without dashes in the url. What else is there ?

Keep in mind NO backlinks!

    There are many factors, one of the main factors could be domain age.

      You vastly over estimate the power of a keyword
      in the domain. Don't be fooled by little snippets or
      chance upon searches. Real searches, by real people,
      for real websites, on what they are REALLY searching
      for matters squat to have a keyword in the domain.
      I'm tired of giving so many real examples. That's why
      now I just say, how did you find warriorforum.com?

      Out of 100 things that matter, there are 99 more that
      really count than keyword in a domain. But, people drink
      the kool aid. And these threads just keep coming, and coming,
      and coming, and coming,....

        Hi Bajsich,

        Yes, keywords in your URL is one of the many signals used to determine your page relevance. As Paul has pointed out, many a time in this forum, it is not absolutely essential. But, as your own observations has shown, it does seem to help.

        While the keyword in the domain name works well, it doesn't need to be in the domain name to be in the URL. It could be a directory name, a sub domain or a page name. It makes since that the domain name would be the strongest signal since Google has used prominence as as a core principal in their algorithm since their founding.

        I believe the keyword in the URL must be one of the more important signals to Google, since it is one that they felt it important enough to build a special search operator. I believe this confirms the importance with which Google views this signal within their core algorithm. They use hundreds of signals but have built special operators for a select handful including the following:
        • allinurl:
        • allintitle:
        • allintext
        • allinanchor:
        • inurl:
        • intitle:
        • intext:
        • inanchor:

        The fact that you see high ranked pages that use only one or two of these important signals is simply an indication that there is little competition for the keyword. The more competition you face the more it helps to hit all the important signals and to expand the size of the web your page is contained within with relevant signals.

        I should also note that by using a keyword in your domain it will be omnipresent in all URLs to your website, all your internal link URLs, also in all your backlink URLs, as well as in the anchor text of those backlinks that only use your URL for anchor text. This added bonus couldn't hurt.

    REal people look for product X, real people type "product x" in google and real peopl go to productX.com ... which is the first page without backlinks. The only thing I (and possibly everyone else) am planing with my sites is to get to the top. This guy did it - HOW?

    Thats all I want to know.

    No competition means no money, you're not the first IM to graze these pastures.

    My guess is these are low search and low financial rewards keywords that aren't worth most IMers time. There are millions of them out there and if you're happy with $10 a month per site then knock yourself out.

      CPC = 1.2-2$ , loads of advertisers for the keyword and many others in the niche.

      Noone said there is no competition. The other sites on the first page have relatively high PRs and loads of backlinks. I would never venture into some because of this , but when i se PR 0 - BL 0 ... productx.com site....All i can say is "hruuumpf?"aka wtf

    There's no doubt in my mind that exact match domains rank much better than another domain in the same niche even if the exact match has far fewer backlinks and a lot less content. I've seen it countless times. And I even have a few exact match domains in fairly competitive niches that I have done nothing with except put up one page of content for the home page then leave them, and they still rank in the top 10, some even number 1, over sites with a ton of links and content. If you can get the exact match domain then you definitely should.
