Gsniper site #36 on Google.. Add more content or add more backlinks?

I've been playing around with Google Sniper and I've FINALLY gotten my site to rank within the top 100 for it's keyword.

It's currently number #36 when I ran a search through Scroogle.org .

To get it to 36 I followed the Gsniper course EXACTLY which didn't get me near the top.

I let it sit for 3 months....NOTHING.

Then I added 2 packs of Angela's links and TheRichJerksNet bookmarking service.

Now I'm #36 for my main keyword and #22 for my secondary keyword.

I've learned a lot about what to do and what NOT to do..

And on my next site I won't make the same mistake again.

Anyway, I plan on adding more backlinks but I was curious if I should add more content to the actual site as well considering the Gsniper system has instructions on what kind/amount of content converts the best and I don't want to mess with that?

Then again the conversion doesn't matter if no one sees it...

Thoughts? Ideas? Help!! lol

PS If anybody was wondering what my main take away from this process has been it's to pick VERY targeted keywords next time..I thought I was targeted but next time I'll choose something even LESS competitive.
##36 #add #backlinks #content #google #gsniper #site
  • There is no harm doing both. At the end, making money online is not easy, especially, if you refrain yourself from hardwork. So, you should just go ahead and add more content and build links to those contents.

You need to define very carefully what you mean by "less competitive".

Many people look at less competitive as having fewer competing websites, but you should really be looking at is the strength and types of sites in the top ten positions.

Are they from article directories, web 2.0 sites, long URL's from deep in someone's site? Do they have limited back links to the page? What factors have they optimized their page for with their title, headings, URL?

You could have a keyword phrase/niche with hundreds of thousands of competing webpages, and very little true competition.

I was just analyzing a niche where there are phrases with very good search volumes, many "competing pages", and tons of articles, hubpages, and squidoo pages on the first and second pages of the searches. Most of them with between 0-15 backlinks to the page. Even though the volume of pages looks intimidating, the other factors make the niche very enticing.

Actually, making money online is easy, it just requires thought and that other nasty thing called WORK. Making money digging ditches is not easy.

Now, to your real question. Instead of asking anyone else what it takes to move your site up to page 1, you need to ask Google, and the sites in the top 10. Look at what their sites consist of in content. How many backlinks do they have to the pages which are beating you? What quality are the backlinks? How is their internal linking structure built? What keyword phrases can your detect in their page, which are used along with your targeted phrase?

By answering questions like those, you know what you NEED to do to replace them in the top 10. Sometimes they are going to be very difficult to unseat, sometimes it takes just a little more effort on getting backlinks from the right places, and adding a few more associated phrases and content.

Thanks for your answers. You make really good points. I jumped right into the first keyword I found that matched Gsniper criteria. Next time I'm going to look at all the other factors as well.. competing sites PR, link structure, etc.

This first time I put up a Gsniper site I just found a keyword with the number of searches and competing sites laid out in the course bought the domain name and ran with it.

How do I find out the internal lick structure etc of a page as it relates to SEO?

First of all, good work for sticking with it despite the 3 months of no success.

Thats a good attitude to have.

As far as pushing your site up in the rankings, backlinks are the way to go. Diversify your backlink sources, try using Free Traffic System - Increase Targeted Website Traffic with Free Unlimited One Way Links.

Basically, you write an article with links back to your site, and it distributes it across various blogs in their network.

You can also submit the article to article directories that point links back at your site. This will allow you build a different type of link, and may even get you some traffic.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the link and the kind words. I see IM like anything else in life.. the first time you do any new specialized skill you're usually pretty bad at it..but if you keep doing it until you get it you have it for life.. kind of like riding a bike..

I'm going to check out that site right now and apply it. Thanks again

If the content is original, add more backlinks. If it's mostly copied, or completely duplicate, then add some original content, and then build backlinks.

Also, don;t forget that adding backlinks to inner links is as important as adding to the homepage.

Cool. Thanks for reminding me about backlinking to the inner links ..I had heard it before but it didn't register until right now. All the link I have pointing at the site are pointing to the homepage.

This next set of backlinking I do will be to internal links.

Here's a quick tip for you.

If you are building 5 links per day, only 1 (ONE) should be for homepage. Rest should be for different pages - not the same one. This is because if 2 or more links from same source point to a common source, only 1 instance is counted. So, apparently, you just wasted your valuable links.

this shows one "problem" very nicely...

Nothing against "the google sniper method" (whatever this should be ), but the problem is that people are expecting and going for rankings WITHOUT having a real idea about SEO and the principles and techniques behind it.

SEO and gaining rankings is SO MUCH more than reading a quick course and watching a few videos.

Don't get me wrong, GS is not bad because it simply builds on a solid method (wordpress=good SEO ...but i dont think you will get too far without a proper understanding of eg. keyword research and tools like market samurai and how to use them, amongst other things.

A friend of mine was very successful with the sniper method for a while, but after a couple of months all his sites were on the second page of google, because of all the other people building sites and writing articles with those keywords.
He still managed to make a lot of money for a while, though...

This is a good point about these types of sites. You can get your self into an endless game of trying to quickly put up new sites in order to sustain your income. I would suggest to use these sniper sites like test sites, if you find something that actually makes money then ramp up your efforts and build better sites in that niche.

Yes, I agree, these types of sites lose traffic (and therefore income) after a while.

An authority site will always out perform micro-sites in the medium to long term, slowly building up more and more traffic.

You must complete the other pages of the site with quality content. On the target page you can add once, your keywords. Find quality links and use the good anchor to your page. With a lot of links (with anchor page with variations, not the same), you can make any page to rank better.

More links means more trust and more capacity to rank well. This is the best strategy.
