PR never really had any SEO juice.

Google toolbar pagerank is not true pagerank. Your site has decent page rank. Next pagerank update is expected in april 2010. Do not forget to check it.

      Hi thomasr,

      Congratulations on your top ranking!

Your page's PR has never had anything to do with your ranking in SERP. Google ranks pages based on relevance, not PR. PR is used to weight the value of your outbound links.

Good job. Is the first place ranking bringing you much traffic? It seems to only get about 140 searches a month.

To me the competing sites doesn't really mean much, only the traffic the keyword gets.

Well PR impacts just about 20 per cent of all the factors Google used to determine your search engine ranking. That's why we shouldn't get too much carried away at getting a high page rank or spend too much time obsessing with this number.

            Hi HCLee,

Can you point me to the source for this information and/or elaborate more on how you came to this conclusion that PR accounts for ~20% of all ranking factors?

Because as far as I know, PR only affects a little, if not at all, the rankings of a particular website.

Yes the most important thing other than pagerank is your exact position in google. Great work, congrats for coming on top position. I think this is all because of the number of backlinks you have for your site and a proper SEO plan executed.

I dont know why everyone talks about PR, I have many page ranks of 0 and it still out ranks many others with high PR. Its all about quality links. PR is like a award medal, yea you got it but someone is always next or at it or better.

Its like the SEO we provide, we laugh at funny prices like 9000 monthly, we do the same quality work for way less. Just cause your paying 9000 doesnt make it better. We charge 399 monthy for 300 keywords. We don't try to make people pay our house payments. My main point PR is not much and we never look into it.

PageRank is a metric to help determine trust and authority of a particular page or domain. It can't be used soley to rank a page because that page still has to be deemed relevant to the search query. To say it plays no role is naive. A trusted site that is optimised for a particular keyword will outrank a page of lower PR every time. The PR that you see in your toolbar is a trailing metric so it is hard to determine what the PR of an up and coming page really is. This goes for the OP too. You may be beating pages with high PR, but are those pages optimised for the keyword? Just because they appear for that particular keyword it doesn't mean they are targeting that keyword.

PR may matter to people like you and me, but you never here a buyer say - He has good PR on the site, I trust this site more. Buyers dont care about SSL or high PR. And no a higher PR wont outrank a PR with 0 everytime, yea it helps but not needed. We do tons of SEO and I have clients say all the time well we have a 0 PR will we outrank the other that have high PR. That is never a worry in my mind that we will outrank them, its more of a worry how many links they have toward that keyword. PR is nothing we look into.

what if you are asked to optimize the keyword, obesity. How will you analyze competition?

Without getting into alot of detail, we never just go after one keyword, but that can be the main future goal, go after all the sub niches of "obesity" and you will start to rank higher and higher for "obesity" while doing the techniques we do for each word, just doing more for "obesity" check what we do for many of our sites in my signature, it always works for us in very high competitive words, but it all takes time and still getting traffic from the subnames and waiting for obesity. Many factors we would look at but PR can still be a 0 and we could get it up on the first page in time.

If you stick quotes round the search you'll see a volume of 40,800. If you do an intitle search on that phrase you'll find 1,170 competing pages. With the phrase in the domain name that will count for a lot. Also don't confuse visible Pagerank with actual Pagerank. Your homepage has over 1100 links suggesting your actual Pagerank will be more than 0.

Good work on getting ranked for a keyword.. but:

    1) PR has never had much to do with ranking(others have explained it excellently above)

    2) The keyword you've ranked for has less than 200 searches. You may do better by sending anchor links to your website of keywords that have more searches.

In my opinion, google pageranks are always changing, but google doesn't let them to display until his next updating.
