Are Bookmarks Pointless for SERP?

Nowadays, Lots of guys are saying that bookmarks are not doing any improvement for SERP, But bookmarks help only for indexing. Is that true or another Myth?

Apart from that, I heard that web properties 2.0 sites links too being ignored by Google, Is that true?

    For many bookmarking/social sites much depends on the positioning on the site. Getting to the front page of digg for example is huge. Getting 100 links to a bunch of social sites that get no traffic is probably not going to do all that much for you.

      I am not talking about getting first page on social bookmark sites, I am talking about getting #1 page on SERP using bookmarks,

      with bookmark links you may rank at page 1 for less popular keyword. But they do not help much for competitive phrases. Also as compared to other link building methods we do not have enough dofollow social bookmarking sites.

      To rank at page 1 we need more and more backlinks. High page rank dofollow sites are only a few.

    Bookmarks from aged and real social bookmarking accounts are still very valuable. Depending on the site- some are no follow.

    I found that bookmarking is great tool for indexing, but also it can improve you deep long tail ranking, nothing by it self helps that much, but when it accumulates you will feel the improvement...
