Trying to rank for a keyword, advice?

My site: virtualteachingassistant.com

My money keywords: online college tutor (10th in google), online college tutoring (6th in google)

What I've done: running my site through thesis, put in a custom meta description, meta keywords etc, have quite a few authority pages linking in, I'm in DMOZ.

How do I rank top three in either of these terms? Any white hat suggestions would be greatly appreciated. They are incredibly competitive keywords as seen by the amount of ppc but I still haven't been able to get into the real cash zone.

As others have said you need to build backlinks with those and related keywords as anchor text. Preferably from related or authority sites, better the links the less you'll need.

You also need to double check your rankings, just doing a Google search on your own PC will not give you a proper result (it will usually show your ranking much higher than it is due to the personalised search results). You can use the free version of Webceo or there are lots of online rank checkers. Make sure you register your site in Google webmaster tools - you can also see where your website is really being ranked in search queries.

I get position 30 (online college tutor) and 21 (online college tutoring) for your website on google.com using an online checker.

        Good luck.

Articles submitted to article directories, a regularly updated blog, social media networking links, blog comments, link service with similar sites.... etc. The list goes on. It really depends a good deal on who you're targetting - the schools, the parents or the teachers, since this will make a difference as to the most effective way of creating backlinks which themselves rank well.

If there are no videos ranking in the top 5 on google, try creating some videos. Google loves video....

Backlinks is what you need I can say.. Build few high PR dofollow backlinks to your site and banggg... you will be on top.

Distribute 3-4 high quality articles on ezine along with your website's url in resource box. Make sure the anchor text you have used are the keywords you are targeting.
