Never seen this before in Google...

Ok, not sure if this is meaningless or not, but today I was doing some keyword research and I came across something I had not ever seen happen before.

I typed in a phrase in "quotes" and was watching for google autocomplete to give me some related terms to see what sort of thing came up. I chose one of the suggested phrases (also in quotes), and there were...no results!

Perhaps I am not yet awake yet, but how can Google make alternative search phrase suggestions when that exact phrase does not exist in their index - where is the suggestion coming from?

I haven't tried that but it seems interesting. It will be a big question if that is really the case.

When you put the "quotes" that tells you how many websites are competing wth that keyword. For example if you put "make money" there are 52,400,000 websites competing with that keyword and if you put it with out the quotes then that means that 171,000,00 websites are related to that keyword.I learnt this off one top internet marketer who is always ranked no 1 on google for all of his websites.

Yes I understand that, and Im not sure how its relevant to the question I asked. You obviously did not learn to understand what people are saying from this guru!

I used quotes because I like to start with a narrow view of what is ranking on page one with that exact term.

The fact no results were displayed after using the exact phrase google suggested to me is my point.

The only thing I can think of (as it was longtail phrase) is that the original listing was de-indexed by Google, but they retain the phrase?
