Good Targeted Traffic - Low Conversions

I have a client where we are having a hard time getting conversions. Her bounce rate is pretty low (around 30%) and she is getting around seven pages viewed per visit and three to four minutes viewed per visit as well (and like any site - we get some junk traffic that would lower her pages viewed as well as raising her bounce rate). So it looks like ppl are viewing her site with some or great interest, but we aren't getting conversions (maybe one or two per month). Our traffic is about 1,500 UV per month - not major compared to a lot of sites, but this is mostly targeted traffic.
I have other clients where I pretty much promote with the same techniques and I get good conversions. However, with her site - it's totally the opposite. I'm thinking that with 1,500 people per month - in which I know is pretty much targeted (since I promote to targeted audiences) - you would think that we would have more conversions.

My client did tell me that her products are priced quite high - I might be thinking that would be one reason that there is a lack of conversions. However, let's say that you do have 1,500 people that are interested (targeted) - I'm thinking that she would be getting much more than two conversions per month. Am I missing something here???

Side note: If you have been through this situation - I would like to hear what you did to correct this. I've posted questions in other forums and I get noobies that answer my question in order to spam their sig links. I ask that you don't do that - I would love to hear from the experts of this forum. Thank you.

From what said from you bigcat it can be tons of things. Major thing is your copy and offer. If you're getting traffic and no conversions then you need to look at what is not converting people and what we need to do. Not looking at the site it's hard to tell. But don't let the average numbers game fool you. You need to test and see whats your average and how to improve it.

For example if you get 1000 hits and you're selling x for 1$ and everyone wants it you might get 500 out of 1000 or less or more. If those same people who only have 1$ and come to your site they leave. So the extra question is for you to think about if traffic is targeted as well.

  • As FastEasySuccess said, it could be lots of things... The traffic might not be as targeted as you think. The site might not be designed to convert the traffic that you're getting. What works for one client might not work for another. And as you mentioned, the overpricing could also be affecting conversions.

If users are landing on your site and lets assume that they ARE targeted, it could be things such as your message, your 'Call to Action' may be difficult to locate or differentiate from your page copy, it may be hidden away, or your proposition may be unclear. Like the posts above say, its very difficult to pin it down without actually seeing it but I hope some of these help to identify the problem!

Your customer's site received a PR 5 page rank! That's impressive with such low traffic...

There are a lot of potential with this website:

    1. Your customer can easily increase the traffic with proper SEO optimization, plus keyword research.

    2. Your customer need to start capturing leads, building a strong list to follow up sales.

    3. When you mention your keyword is target, what are they? I don't see any targeted selling page - meaning all your page is very hard to navigate and doesn't design to lead to sales!

If I were your customer, I will redesign the site to:

    1. Target more keywords, find potential customer through related keywords like wedding jewelry, birthday gifts... and many related long tail keywords that may lead to sales.

    2. Redesign the product browse page, categorize product / customer needs, and by product type as well, allow easy browse of 10 ~ 20 products at a time. There are many elements to improve usability of an online store:

    • Try to sort by - all time top selling, all time top selling in category, newest arrival, editorial pick, this month top selling, this month top selling in category... any sorting that would help visitors find their stuff.
    • Design all page to be above the fold, meaning you don't need to scroll down to see important messages.
    • Hide event & press, Jewelry care, and any non-critical item into one drop down menu.

    3. Research more about your market, find relevant keyword to tap into targeted traffic, use those content to lead to your opt-in page for a nice, desirable report, and use autoresponder to build relationship with your leads, finally promote product to them.

I find that this market has a lot of potential (in first glance) to get customers, build long term relationship and repeat selling with emails! I think converting customer is not hard, but you must show the value of your product vs competitors! (or compare to the market value)...

Just my 2 cents, hope this helps!

Create new pages and split test it against the old ones that'll give you clear

idea. If you don't want to change your pages then try to use squeeze page because

it's much easier to make changes and converts much better than webpage.

In addition to the aforementioned; I don't know how much traffic you're getting from your backlinks, but a lot of them seem to be non-targeting/irrelevant to your site's content.
