Hi guys,

Long time lurker here but 1st post, so apologies if the question sounds a bit simple.

I am putting together a video promotion and planning to promote it directly on youtube rather than directly on my site, as I understand this has a better chance of ranking.

As there is only limited on-page optimisation you can do with YouTube, is it simply a case of collecting high quality back links to the page?

And this one I can't really get my head around: Why are videos shown for some searches (e.g. How to ....) and not others (e.g. golf sale) that must have a large number of videos associated with the keyword?

Any guidance much appreciated!

2stoke.

Thanks for the advice about your service. I can see how submitting to multiple video sites would help generate traffic, but I am specifically looking to get the YouTube video ranked on the 1st page in Google for my keyword. Surely G would just have, say, 40 new individual pages to index and I can't see how they could help each other.

Other people are managing it somehow. Unless I am missing something, it must be through backlinks...

For Youtube, make sure the keyword you want to rank for is in the title of the video. I also like to put it in the description at least once (make sure you provide a full, relevant description) and even as one of the tags.

    That's the on page stuff.

Then it's good old fashioned link building from there. Build links like you'd build them for any other page, but since it's a Youtube video page you're building links to, you can build them faster and more aggressively.

Thanks Gary, that seems to make sense to me. I'm using Angela's backlinks service at the moment, but I'll escalate this to perhaps some .edu links and some new unique articles that can include the link.

The backlinks are still taking a while to show on Yahoo site explorer, but I'm hoping they will come in time.

I'm ranking no. 3 in YouTube for the key phrase and no. 7 in google if you search for videos (this happened within 10 mins of submission), but in the general search it is still nowhere (not even indexed). What gives with that?
