Can anyone solve this SEO mystery?

I have a question for you guys maybe some of you SEO pros know what is going on.

Basically I was looking at some websites at the top of google using a backlink checker to see where they were getting their links from to rank so high and I found that they were being linked from just 5 or 6 PR4 and 5 sites, which all seemed to be linking to the same sites.

The strange thing is, I can't find any backlinks for these sites on any backlink checker and they have really abstract names. They are just full of articles...check it out:

www. edri-et .org
www. eu-gaprdp .org
www. sesam .ws
www. apafive .org
www. criminologyandpublicpolicy .com

I'm just really curious more than anything now...how did they get such high PR?

Thanks

It actually gets a sone high pr backlinks! not that much,
but of high quality. Seen pr5-8, including .edu sites...

Seems reasonable that it would get a high PR as well.
But how could such a spammy site get such high PR backlinks? It really is a mystery to me.

Pretty sweet find. Loving it. Lots to chew on. Its not just any old PR six backlinks. One of the listed links is in a pdf from the white house. Yeah thats right THE White House .gov.

        Alright how?

Would have to look into it a bit more but The links were most likely created from a previous site that went belly up and they took over the domain. Big time strategy I've been researching and getting into. The trick is in being able to find these sites that have preexisting links .This was a killer find for them. You can probably buy links on the site as well. Looks like its going into full fledge link farm status but the credentials are outstanding and could be a glimpse into how Google passes on authority separate from PR IF you found them in a very competitive keyword space

Yeah I thought that they might have expired at first but now I'm coming round to thinking they might have never existed.

www. edri-et .org should be Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI), which is an actual site.

It must have been a typo, but how could they have found so many typos, it couldn't be by chance trawling through all these government blogs.

EDIT: here are some more from the same guys, similar design, same articles, same amazing backlinks. Seems they have quite a network:

          www. lineproductionturkey .com
          www. connecticut2 .com
          www. ateneayafrodita .com
          www. predynastic .com
          wv-www .net
          www. nyeyeandear .com
          www. elizardodejesus .com
          saintpaulsepiscopalcathedral .org
          www grandprixautomobilepau com
          www. knightexpressoffcampus .com
          www. rtp20 .org
          www. pbjmag .com
          www. defensegutter .com
          www. hammondchamber .net
          www. pastudentdiaries .com
          www. fnbhouston .org
          www. reclisa .org
          bloggerrelations .com
          www. auroraselvaggio .com
          www. giamik17 .com

They have something figured out that we don't....with this network of sites they can put any site to the top of google.

        Hi C,

Use SEO Spyglass to check backlinks and look for PR on the PAGE, more than the DOMAIN.

The 'spammy' site owner may have either built quality backlinks or purchased the domains with those decent backlinks and then changed the content.

There is only really one page, the main page, and as a result the page PR pretty much perfectly matches the site PR according to SEO spyglass.

PR is calculated by an equation based on incoming links. Good content doesn't give you better PR, although you can get a penalty reducing your PR by doing various shady practises, and google can always choose to disregard incoming links.

It's not really a big secret.

Terry has been doing this for a while now and I've picked up a couple of similar domains myself for this purpose.

It's a tricky business but you need to stay on top of dropped domains, look for domains that are not only aged and have higher PR but also have legitimate backlinks that aren't going to be lost as soon as you buy the domain.

I've had hit and miss results so far, mostly good but one of the PR 5 sites I bought did lose it's page rank.

There are a couple of services that specialize in picking up dropped domains ahead of the competition but it can be spendy and a few of them have reps for stealing domains for themselves or driving up the cost.

You don't think large companies with a real budget don't do this themselves? It's a lot smarter and faster than creating 10k profile backlinks, crazy link wheels and backllink boosting... and it's 100% white hat and spam free.

It's highly likely that they bought expired domains with PR. That explains why they have links from the White House pdf documents.

  • Too strange, but for what keywords are you getting these sites at the top of search engine?

This is really impossible as without any kind of backlinks ...Even they do not have anything related to good keywords in their domain..so this is really impossible.

well, post a link or something. I wanna play too.

and something to add... the people doing this super secret black ops SEO stuff, they are smart. If I knew what they were doing I'd be counting my money while relaxing someplace in the south pacific.

I don't think you're going to get a very good answer to how or what is being done. I think a lot of it has to do with 301 redirects and blocking yahoo bots but I'm sure there is a lot more going on that I haven't even dreamed of.

    Forget it.

None of the sites mentioned in the first post is even INDEXED in google.

There is no way there is linkjuice coming from them, or we look at some extreme SEO mystery. That whole network has probably been de-indexed.
