Paying $300 / mos for SEO Services - Am I Crazy?

Hi Folks,

Let me build the story a little. Once upon a time, I read the book called The New Rules of Marketing and PR by Meerman Scott. I started following his advice relating to building traffic organically. I quickly found this to be ALOT of work! I am by no means adverse to hard work but it was sucking all available time I needed to develop my biz so I scrapped the whole SEO thing and went into PPC and content network to drive my traffic.

Then along came a group who were promoting a system called Web Content Flood. Anyone heard of it? It's very new but in a nutshell they provide an interface where you can quickly upload your keyword dense articles and / or videos. They then take those media and publish them to their various sources to a) develop credibility for you and your company and b) create backlinks.

Additionally, these articles will be automatically published to your FaceBook page and your blog taking some redundancy out of your day.

This service will publish about 4 articles / videos per week in this fashion at a cost of $300 / mos.

Since starting the service a little over a month ago, I have gone from around 200 ish backlinks to a little over 700 ish backlinks but as far as I can tell by going to my webmaster account and following the links, these links are from predominantly PR0 - PR2 web pages.

I think I am grossly over paying but want to get a more informed opinion.

Thanks,
Adrian

PS. Just went back in to my webmaster account to double check the PR of the links and now see that as of today my links have dropped right back down to where they had been before starting the service!

Expensive for what they deliver, check WSO forum for some crazy offers.

Outsourcing. The question is, are what they are doing for you returning a high enough income in sales and time saved? If more is coming in than going out, even if it means you have 2 more hours a day and use them to produce an income you wouldn't have otherwise had, that counts as well.
Of course, doesn't mean there are not better services or cheaper ones that can return a higher ROI.

        Hey man,

Sorry to hear you didn't get the results you were looking for.

If it's of any help, from my experience what has worked best is using High-PR Profile packets. These are packets with links to forums with high pr (4-9 usually) where you can create a profile and then put backlinks in your profile! Angela's are some of the best I have used them in the past, and they only cost $5/month for the list!

What also works well is posting unique content on blogs (include backlinks to your sites), submitting your rss feeds to rss aggs, and social bookmarking.

Do you know much about Link-Wheels?

This strategy has always worked well for me, even if it is sometimes more of a long term strategy. The only problem with forum profiles is that mods can delete them if they look like spam, but if you put in a forum description and are not spamming or anything you should be good. Also, Link Wheels create a solid strategy IMHO.

It may take some time and work to put all this together, but it's worth it in the long term.

        I hope this helps,
        Mikey

I agree Jeremy but from my short presence on this forum I can see that there are many qualified persons (such as you) who can offer and equivalent (or probably better) service at a far more equitable price.

It's not the process I am concerned with in this service (although I am a bit dubious of the quality of their back links), it's more the price I'm paying for it...

Which reminds me.....Don't forget to let me know when you are ready to offer another $65 package!!

Also, what are you relying on to count your backlinks?

Oftentimes Google doesn't reveal all back-links to a site.

That's not SEO. That's spamming Google's index with repeated content and for $300 per month you could get a way better service than that.

I've yet to hear about that particular service but if you were doing a price comparison - IMHO - at that price point, you would be better served getting Market Samurai, properly performing your keyword research and then utilizing LV Linkvana and UAW Unique Article Wizard.

With LV and UAW, you can submit as many articles and posts as you want and then schedule them to be drip feed onto the target sites.

Again, I know nothing about the company in question but speaking from continued experience, when you combine the right keywords with LV and UAW you create a synergistic effect that energizes and empowers you to topple your competition and take over the top spots in some of the more competitive keyword phrases.

Of course depending on how competitive the market or niche you are attacking, you may need to add other backlinking sources but those are two powerful tools to start with.

That's a correct assessment! That's why it always amazes me when these people and companies offer up a 30 day money back guarantee.

The company I work for charge $5,000 to $10,000 a month for SEO services, so I would say you got of cheap. Of course, $1 is too much for anything if it doesn't deliver.

For what types of businesses? Obviously, not everyone can afford 5-10K per month for SEO alone. I suspect businesses that can afford 5-10K SEO services are charged that only b/c they can afford it. In the end, SEO is still SEO. Maybe I'm wrong....

        Sure, it's for big business.

I just feel like most SEO is easier and much cheaper to do by yourself if you invest in some good tools.

Your insight was exactly what prompted me to start investigating SEO and IM. I used to work for a small law office in Pennsylvania. Our current site was developed in 2007. We paid more than 20,000 for the design and the on-site SEO. I now know that there was little to no off-site SEO performed. There was approximately 15,000 ROI on this site over 4 years.

A few months ago the firms Sr. partner started to look at another web designer/SEO company. This company wanted 8,000 to design a website optimized for local searches only.

These companies are able to command such high amounts because the clients have no idea what they are what they are paying for. SEO and IM are a huge mystery to them and they don't have the time to understand it.

$300 out, zero in/month means it's likely time for a change (or multiple changes).

If you get some nice tools like:

    UAW

    RSSBot
    VideoBot(?)

Then you pay once and can do it yourself pretty easily.

#1 You need unique and original content to be published on your blog as well as on the facebook fan page.

#2 You need backlinks from a variety of mediums.

#3 You need to build backlinks gradually.

#4 You need to get your articles indexed quickly in the search engines.

#5 You need to bookmark your articles from time to time.

    And there's more...

I have a team member working with me who does some part of the work for me while I do the rest.

SO I can build a ton of backlinks fast. However, I will do it gradually.

There has to be a link building strategy and a SEO strategy in place.

If you're outsourcing SEO, that's okay but you need to build your content strategy and keyword strategy effectively.

I think you're losing money on the service you're paying for right now.
