Hey everyone,

I'm wondering if you can tell me what usually causes a page rank that has been at 2 for at least 6 months, to drop to 1, it has stayed there now for over a month.

I change up the headlines fairly often trying to get more sales and sometimes change a little of the content, but not very much. I'm also every month adding more backlinks, about 30 each month.

Is it something that I did? How hard is it going to be to get it back up to where it was?

I don't think it matters but my competition has remained the same over the entire time.

Thanks very much!

Mm

When the PR drops on one of my sites it's nearly always one on which I haven't updated much or added any content.

      Hey,

Great question! dotslash is correct. Sometimes your PR will drop if you stop updating constantly because Google doesn't view you as an authority site on the subject anymore.

Also, I would pay attention to the outgoing links you have going out. If you've placed any in the time frame of the last PR update, this can cause PR to drop as well.

Best of luck and I hope you regain that lost PR!

        @Dotslash - I've experienced the exact same problem when I don't update a website's content.

Basically, if your website stagnates: no new content, no new links could result in lower PR.

Wrong. Content of a site and if its updated or not has NOTHING to do with PR. PR is totally based on links.

Wrong. PR leak has been well shown to be a myth

Wrong. PR leak is alive and well, but it is not really "leaking"...

If you place an additional backlink on a page, your page shares PR with the site you are linking to.

          It works both ways too...

If a page is sharing their PR by linking to your page -> and the PR of that page gets cut in half -> you are now receiving half of the PR juice that page was once giving you, dropping your PR.

Really to me all page rank on my site means is how often my page is crawled... But PR on other sites linking to me is a big deal because Google passes down trust with backlinks. Trust that ranks your page higher in G's rankings.

    Hi,

There could be several reasons for which a website's page rank gets dropped, you should strictly follow the instructions given by Google in this regard. Remember, updating website content on a regular basis helps you to maintain PR.

Page rank only depends upon links. If u link a restricted , warning and virus affected urls in your website pages surly your link quality will decrees. It will affect your pagerank also.

Out bound links there is no any problem but we must care about external site links in our webpages.

First, PR is not important in your ranking.

Then maybe your dropped because you are linking to bad neighbors.

Or maybe your competitors are doing better job than you. You need just to keep on working.

PR is the joke of the century.

Sites i have where i work HARD for months/years and which have TOP google rankings for certain keywords FELL in PR, my main blog actually has a "gray PR" penalty for two years already where i still dont know why.

And yesterday i found out that my CRAPPIEST AUTOBLOGS ever which i never bother even to do anything gained PR2 <----

I gave up checking PR since its beyond ridiculous.
