What's more important for outranking competition on 1st page?

Hello warriors,

I will be building my first site or two this weekend and I am currently doing the keyword research. I came across some very good keywords (or at least I think so) that get a lot of [exact] searches.

The market is a very fierce but lucrative one. For the keyword phrase I'm looking at though, there's only around 40,000 competing pages.

Using traffic travis' SEO Competition Analysis, it tells me that I can rank "relatively easy" but the results show 1 PR8, about 2 PR7, 2 PR5 and there's a few PR2 websites on the first page.

A lot of those results on the first page, only have around 300 or so backlinks and some have NO backlinks at all but the overall backlinks to the website is in the thousands.

I noticed that a lot of the websites in the results are not optimized for that keyword with Title, Description, H1 Tag, etc.

Could this be the reason Traffic Travis thinks it's easy to rank for this keyword phrase? It just seems a bit too good to be true. Especially taking into consideration I'm relatively new at keyword research lol.

Any insight into this will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Don't pay attention to any program telling you something is "easy". I analyze myself. For me, PR is somewhat important. I usually want the sites to be no higher than PR4 but that's not the deciding factor. What's most important to me is keyword in title, description, url, and amount of backlinks.

Oh yeah, amount of competing pages means jack squat. I don't care if it's 100 pages or a million. I only look at top 10.

Yeah traffic traffis is a great tool! Good to see your doing everything the right way.

I would never go by what the traffic travis tool says or doesn't say. You need to look into it a bit more yourself. For example it could say difficult and if you have a keyword rich domain name it won't really matter, 99% of the time you will land on the first or second page of google provided your on page setup is done correctly.

    thebarksmeow,

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

Keyword in title + description + url along with the backlinks is very important. Maybe that's why the software thinks it is still easy to rank since the top 10 results aren't optimized like this. I too thought of not going after anything that has a PR4 or above since I'm just starting out.

My goal is for this website to become somewhat of an authority site for that niche/keyword along with the ones that are already established.

    E-Supreme,

Thanks for the help as well.
