How Long does a google dance last ?

HI,
One of my sites ranked at position 4 has moved to position 22nd this has started exactly when I started building more links and pages to the site.

I am assuming this is the google dance but I can't be sure.

I would like to know how long does this take so that I can come to a conclusion if this is a true fall in my ranking or something temporary.

Cheers,
Kachaloo

Basically google is updating its algo since last two months, so you are sure to see the dance of the links in rankings. But dont stop getting quality backlinks as they are very important. It might stop very soon as the pagerank update has recently completed so google is most likely to complete the algo update soon.

Really it's quite difficult to tell you an exact timing. This thing is quite natural. You need to build backlinks and try to get more from good sources. If your suggested keywords are not so competitive and if you're using them properly both from on page and off page sides then definitely you'll achieve a good position in Google. Don't get frustrated. Just keep on your good work.

It's impossible to give you an estimate - Just keep building links...I have a keyword that started on page 6. I built links, it hit page 5, I continued to build, it went to page 2. Then back to 5, then to page 1, then back to 6, then back to 1....the whole time I continue to build links. Right now it's settled at position 6, however I'm sure it will bounce around some more. I started this whole process about 6 weeks ago. Just don't obsess over following the spot, and continue to build links.

It varies...it could last 4 days , or 1 week, just know that it will come back. My site was gone for about 2 weeks until I saw it back and it was nicely on the first page when prior to the dance it was at the bottom of the second page :-)

    Hey

This does seem like GD. You can continue building backlinks, though through RIGHT WAYS. You might be doing something wrong.

Don't worry about that , it will eventually settle down. Build links , update content on a regular basis !

Google dance is an old term dating back to when Google would have a minor update about once per month. Before the update, you would see movement until the dance was over and then the serps settled down.

Google now claims to make as many as 450 very minor tweeks/year. Call it flux. Serps change just about every day.

Google dance has no definite time of ending. But it is just within a week.

Lol.. google dance. That's the first I've heard that time. I am pretty new still I guess. >_>; Anyone have any idea what kind of updates they are making? Is it mostly superficial stuff? Or is it a complete revamp?
