what I find more amazing, is 3 x results down, there's probably one of the most expensive domains around "sex.com" which appears to be one of those portal sites, making referal commissions...

... not really a "real" site with "real" self published content, so to speak.

Now that's gotta piss off the SEO gurus.

P.S - A site estimated to be worth $43 million probably knows how to find folks who know how to do this stuff all day long...and do it well.

PR 6... Alexa #157.... and 13.8 million backlinks... and the particular URL goes to a post about sex. So not such a surprise.

Hmm... I see your point, but I'm still not so sure. Just because it makes sense... doesn't seem to make it any less surprising. There is an awful lot of competition out there and the Huffington Post seems "out of left field"...

I been trying to figure their SEO strategy out for awhile along with some of the other sites familiar to it. One interesting thing I found out is alot of those type of sites also rank very well for some of the actors and actresses. I also found out that alot of those types of sites share the same videos which is also interesting.

Well for starters, the site has a boatload of backlinks, not to mention
that it's been around for a while. Age helps in SEO too.

I wonder how many of us stopped at "verifying" sex.com's ranking

And I promised myself I wouldn't spend any more money on "stress relievers". Never had good will power.

I am sure all who read this thread lost a little more time than it took to read.

The Guy who owns Sex.com is losing the domain and it will be up for auction. He cant pay off the the financing because he does not understand how to market the right products.

Actually, it should piss off the article writers and 'content is king' types since both of those sites have very little text content.

Both of those sites are a great example that what many gurus preach is nonsense.

I been trying to figure their SEO strategy out for awhile along with some of the other sites familiar to it.
    Backlinks.

Building backlinks, buying backlinks, trading for backlinks etc... the site is more or less a band name now so they pick up backlinks organically from all over including from many non-adult authority sites.

There is nothing special about the site itself and it goes to show that if you work hard, hustle and can get an obscene number of backlinks you can rank well for anything.

Not really. It is a huge site, linked to from all over the net. It is well known to many people including students and through jungle drums at work conversations etc.

I would imagine that it gets a ton of relevant natural backlinks and most will contain the keywords free sex/porn.

Also a quick look (well a long look) shows that far from infringing copyright, most of the clips I reckon are put up by the studios. So its in their interests to drive traffic to those posts from their networks of spplogs and generated landing pages, ie, give them free content and encourage them to investigate the paid options.

Basically it is a genius linkbuilding strategy.
