I bought a domain name yesterday that had a cpc of $7 in google keyword tool

I just looked up the same phrase today and it's cpc is $.05 but all of the other keywords related to this niche are still $7 or higher CPC.

Did google trick me? I want my $7 back LOL

Maybe you changed data from/to Broad/Phrase/Match

    PS: Buy low, sell high

Maybe they changed the data, and the average doesn't cover a long time span? I've tracked some of my words and I do see the numbers fluctuate after a few weeks.

I actually have another problem with this tool, if anyone knows the answer.. When I search for a term in the KW tool, then sign in and search for the same term, both in exact match--

The results when logged in drop dramatically. It drops 80-95% for almost all the keywords.

I don't know which to trust. Dropping 80-95% is a dealbreaker for most terms I come across.

      Any ideas ?

When you're logged in, you might have certain local settings that show the data relevant to your country, whereas when you're not logged in it shows global.

I've noticed the major discrepancy between the logged in and not logging in GKWT results also. I also understand that the numbers cannot be depended on to be accurate.

But surly one of the results is way off. Like pack12 said, it's in the neighborhood of 80% lower when logged in.

Any ideas other than Google's numbers cannot be trusted?

Well actually, you will never know which information is real. The best bet is to trust Google as it has been quite "accurate" for me.

Well, all my data is from Google. One is from KWT logged in, and one is without being logged in. It's a matter of which to trust. To go for a 6k exact match monthly (not logged in) keyword vs Google saying its 600 or lower (when logged in) is the difference between wasting a bunch of time on a SEO campaign or not.

    This is no surprise.
The google keyword tool has also been known to give wrong traffic data for keyword.

Moral of the story for that one was to take out a PPC ad and check to see the true volume of the keyword.

No reason to be cautious, you are looking for numbers that Google does not provide the number and searches. In Adwords keyword tool, you change the type of large exact phrase search, you will find great jump volume.I think Google use this tool to do more money and not informing people. It should not be trusted.
