Tip on getting .Edu backlinks for free!

You have probably heard that .edu sites carry a lot of weight in the link juice division. I have seen a few back link packages floating around that promise you PR 6 to PR 9 back links from .edu sites.
If you roll up your sleeves a bit you can get them for free. Here is how: Got to Free EDU Blog Finder | How to Get EDU Backlinks | Edu Links Seo and use their tool to find .edu blogs to leave your link. Also make sure to download the Firefox plugin SeoQuake - seo toolbar, plugin, seo extension for Mozilla Firefox. This will let you see which .edu sites have the highest PR in a blink of an eye.

  You just have to watch out with SEOquake not to overdo it because Google will see it as automated queries and put a stop to it.

I have been thinkng on were to find these sites as soon as i have been using the packets you mentioned alot of them in a coming weeks the sites seem to disable the links and it was a waste of time and money

Great post @bravo75!

Here's another method for getting .edu and .gov backlinks.

Go to Google.com and use the following search query:

site:.edu inurl:blog "post a comment" - "keyword"

Replace "keyword" with whatever your keyword is that you're trying to rank for (keep the quotes around it). If you're looking for .gov's then replace the .edu with .gov (i.e. site:.gov inurl:blog "post a comment" - "keyword")

  To much emphasis is put on dofollow and nofollw if a lot of the top SEO guys are to be believed. No follow links still get crawled.

  Most of them will be "nofollow" but don't get too caught up on that. You should still go for "nofollow" links for 2 reasons:
  
  1) It is natural to have them.
  
  2) Google has announced that they were no longer going to adhere to the nofollow and arbitrarily give "link juice" from them as they think webmasters should be managing whom they are linking too. (This info was shared with me by an SEO veteran, Dori Friend.)

thats better news Tom. I was unaware about it. I only used them sometimes 1 out of 10 links so that they look natural. Its pretty nice then . We can find lots of nofollows

I am a bit skeptical as to whether or not those .edu links carry that much of weight and can really help you escalate the search engines rankings.

Here's another method that's helpful:

1) Use Market Samurai To Look Up Your Competition
2) Almost Always Someone Will Have Edu Links
3) Go To Their Source
4) 90% Of The Time You Can Get The Same Link

This can take up quiet a bit of time and that's why going through the WSO Section is so helpful where you can get ready made packets.

You mention using SEOQuake to see the page rank in the search. I have that running on my browser. I have read that you can sort the search results with SEOQuake, but I have not been able to figure out how to do it. I see the word 'sort' at the top left of the results, but it is just a word, not a cliclable item.

Any suggestions on how to sort the SERP results by the PR rank?

Tim, to the right of the word Sort: you will
see several pairs of tiny arrows. Up arrows
and down arrows. Find the pair next to
the letters PR and click the down pointing
arrow. Or the up pointing arrow. That
sorts the SERPs for you.

I should mention that SEOquake has 2
thingies.

1, a toolbar

2, the one we're talking about here which
adds a line of data under each Google
listing on the search results page.

An excellent tool thank you so much for sharing it - I suppose the one thing to watch out for though is the "Google Dance" that sometimes leads to you being de-indexed/sandboxed if your backlinks rise to fast especially comparatively to your traffic

  Well, 99.9999% of people don't understand the complex world of Google algorithms either, including me. Fact is though, high ranking sites will get crawled more often than flash in the pan sites and inner pages with high PR forums with your sig URL will also get noticed and algorithmically categorized as being of some importance. Therefore pushing up your PR.
