Urgent Promotion Help: Considering Adsense / Facebook Advertising Campaign

I have created a forum for personal interest which I would like to grow. I'm interested in an adsense campaign or facebook. I have a very very tight budget because this is a personal project. I have no payed advertising experience so open to our thoughts and suggestions. I reall want to get this going in the next 24 hours.

Budget:
USD $30- 50 / month

Aim:
500 - 1000 New active members / month.

My questions are these.
Which network would you use?
Where do I send them? content? registration page?
Price per click or Per 1000 impressions?
How do you promote your forum?
What would your ad say?
Image or Text adverting?

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

    ? i would even look at sites like project wonderful for this, and advertise a banner or text in the categories related to you forum, where to send them to would probably be a small about us with a join now type link, what would your ad say ? if you were to describe your forum in 70 letters or so what would you say, or if you put a picture onto a banner what would best describe you forum / with some text

    text or image, each will differ but my vote is 100% text hands down.

      I kind of went for this and with your recommendation pointed it to an about page. Maybe the copy could be better.

      I'm also looking at PW for some advertising but still to find a site to bid on.

    With the PW perhaps try not to worry about finding the right site, but more so select the right category then after testing remove those sites not performing as you wish.

    I've used Facebook advertising before and I didn't see much success. I might have just targeted a broad subject or targeted the wrong people in general. I'd say start off slow, don't put all you eggs in the facebook basket xD

    But who knows, maybe you'll do a lot better than I did ^_^

    Good luck. We been going 5 years on our forum and have never had more than 250 active members at any one time. Not even when we were up top for our big keywords.

      I would be interested how long it took you to build up your facebook group and how much time u put into it each day ?

      As far as monetizing it, personally I wouldnt worry about that just yet I reckon u might need to get it a bit bigger to make any serious money, and if you try to monetize too early you might put people off.

    Don't want to be a downer but with your budget you would need to convert at 10cents per new user to make your goal. You probably won't even get clicks that cheap.

    Good luck though, maybe it will work well enough even if you don't get 500 new members.

    Also, for a landing page you could try using a thread that really hooks people and pushes their buttons in a way that they feel compelled to add their 2c.

    This has happened to me, however its mostly when I strongly agree or disagree with what's being said, so you'd have to see how it could work in your case.
