Site Validation On SEO

Hi Guys,

I juist finished optimizing a few sites to w3 standards, The W3C Markup Validation Service i'm curious if this will help sites to rank slighly better? i have read a few blogs and they seem to think google doesn't take into account if your site is validated or not but is that right? i would have thought for sure it would have had an effect.

Hey Graham,

I don't have scientific evidence that says it affects things one way or another but it is still good to do. Sites that are well coded are generally "lighter" (in terms of file sizes) and search engines like that.

To that end, Google seems to be putting more emphasis on page-load times (meaning they are factoring this into the algorithm) so it does make sense to make your pages as light as possible.

Also, if you sell web design services, it's a definite plus. Most client's won't have heard of the W3C before but once you point it out to them, it sets you apart (and above) other service providers.

It doesn't make any difference as long as the site can be parsed by the 'bot. There are a lot of poorly coded pages out there that can't pass this check but rank for highly competitive keywords.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the reply, a day or so after i made sure all pages were compliant i jumped from page 9 in google to page 2, i have been doing link building on and off for a few weeks so i'm unsure if it was the link buillding or the compliant pages that made the big jump or both lol
