Google love, My experiment..interesting!

Okay, perhaps this was a fluke (but I don't think so).

I've had this discussion with friends who tend to agree. I'm not calling this a 'conspiracy', rather, a smart business move on behalf of Google.

A friend of mine noticed one day that his sites that had google adsense were doing much better in rankings than his other sites without adsense. Now these sites of his were pretty much equally matched with regards to SEO before he put his adsense on.

So, I tried a little experiment of my own. I have about 250 articles on my site with NO adsense (I never had adsense on them). I decided to place adsense on 2 articles.

WOW!

Those two articles, which weren't my best viewed articles by far, somehow turned up quite high in ranking. That is, when I google searched my website name, these articles, the ones with adsense, showed up 2nd behind my home page.

Any interesting thoughts on this? Again, I believe google is a business. I wouldn't be surprised if this is part of the alogrithm. If it were my business, I would do the same.

I'll try this again and let you know what happened.

That's weird, because a lot of people complain that they drop in rankings when they but google adsense in their websites.

It probably depends on the niche and competition and how your competitors pages are designed.

I would think google would want Adsence pages to rank higher.

Has anyone found an increase or decrease since adding adsense?

What I'd like to know, is if anyone has found any kind of change in their rankings since adding and/or deleting adsense?

I don't think that opinions are warranted. That is, personal experiences are much more valuable.

    Thanks

I've seen a couple of blogs tank when they took out Adsense. Not exactly a scientific sample but it seems to be a common phenomenon with others I have talked to.

I have no experience with adsense ranking my sites higher, BUT that's pretty much the way that Google runs their Adwords systems. It has very little to do with giving a crap about the searcher or the advertiser. Who ever can pay the most...wins.

Perhaps this is why Hubpages always shows up even though I believe it has a PR5. Tons of adsense.

Is it possible the results you're seeing in Google are influenced by the Google personalized search "feature"?

There's a ton of info out there on personalized search, here's one link: Official Google Blog: Personalized Search for everyone

In my testing, I haven't noticed it so I won't comment on it.

Amy, thanks for the link, but no chance. I'm not seeing the results due to personalized search.

    This is definitely random.

    Let's take two examples.

Example 1. Page has no adsense. Google ranks it high in the serps and user clicks through finds info and moves on.

Example 2. Page HAS adsense. Google ranks page high in the serps and user clicks through, finds some good info, but ALSO find an ad (that makes google money when clicked) in a similar niche and clicks that.

Which one do you think google prefers?

Disclaimer: I have no idea if there is any merit to that, but it's LOGICAL that google would rank adsense pages higher, so long as they didn't interfere with the user experience (i.e. not an adsense farm) simply because they stand to gain revenue that way.
