  • Hi kcgeorge,

There are limits to how many keywords you can optimize for, with on-page optimization techniques on a single page. I usually limit it to no more than three phrases. However, there is no limit to how many pages your site has, therefore no limit to the number of keywords your site is optimized for.

To see an example of a site that is optimized for many different keywords look at about.com or ezinearticles.com.

You can even use off-page optimization to rank for an unlimited number of terms on a single page, though you would be better off narrowing your focus on each page.

    • Thanks for the little open-up.
  • Most likely various pages of their site are ranking for various keywords rather than just the home page.

it is simple. Just build backlinks with different anchor text, and you will rank better for the keywords that you use in the anchor text.

    • Hi Angilina,
Great tip and straight forward answer.Thanks.
  • SEO or search engine optimization is a technique used to make your Web pages more useful for your customers while making them more transparent and understandable to search engines. SEO is an inexpensive way to help your Web site get more page views by creating Web pages that rank highly in search engine results.
  • Hello,

I have many sites that rank top for many different keywords.

Normally, I create one page for each keyword and do it that way.

Just say that I want to rank for 5 keywords. I would create 5 different pages and carry out on-page SEO for each page and they would rank in the SERPS like this:

    yoursite.com/page

Of course I publish totally unique content on each page that I want to rank from the same site. Make sure you do, too, else Google will give your site a duplicate content penalty.

    Hope this helps,

    ~Russ

  • Angilina had it right.

Basically, I am ranking for keywords I have never targeted in my keyword tags, and never created back links with those anchors. You can rank for more than one keyword per page, what everyone else says is still effective but not necessary. Add content with keywords you want. If you achieve a high ranking in one keyword, the rest is easier.

Yes, you can theoretically have an endless amount of keywords to rank in, by adding back links, with whatever anchored text you are shooting for. You can also modify pages with tags and titles that relate to your keyword. The keywords in your meta tags, are not very powerful at all. In fact, I can rank for keywords that aren't listed as my keywords at all.

Just make sure your site is optimized. Target a specific keyword at first, and once you start ranking, go for another, and so on.
