I'm looking to create a simple app that will find forums for me to post on so that I can create some good backlinks but does anyone know of how to find those footprints or maybe a list of them to use?
Thanks.

    No one is going to spoon feed you this list.. find them on your own, it's really not hard.

    inurl:"member.php?u" "Powered by vBulletin"

    This will get you started.

      Note that I think that the first part of your search will only return V.B 3.xx sites, and not VB 4.XX sites. In addition, even on VB 3.xx sites, some have custom urls whereby the user's username will in the URL, rather than that "u" stuff.

        Well, I just did a search using the footprint without any keyword and on page 3 there are at least 3 forums with version 4 (you may find them on different pages in your country though). I don't know why you said the query can not result in version 4 forums. Any specific reasons?

        As far as i can tell both V3 and V4 have the same url structure at least for the user profile page. (member.php?u).

        Most forums run with their default setting. They dont change their url structure, so if I can harvest at least 50% of whats available in Google index, that will work for me.

          Well...

          "powered by vbulletin 4.0" --> 1,480,000 results
          "powered by vbulletin 4.0" inurl:member.php?u --> 9 results

          That should be a clear indication that that is not the standard format for 4.0.x forums.

          As someone who owns a VB 4.0 forum, I can tell you that the off-the-shelf setting was:

          member.php?username

          But, we changed our member profile permalinks to:
          member.php/username

          It was a one click change in the VB control panel.

    Everybody assumes vbulletin is the best forum software

    Try big-boards.com for their list of various large forums. They even list them by who has the most posts.

      It certainly isn't the best forum, at least for me, and i don't think anyone has stated that in this thread:confused:

    It should find 4.0 forums as well, it's still using the member.php file. If the site owner doesn't have that file in their robot.txt file, it should still pull it up in google.

      That's correct, but 4.0 did away with the "u" that was in the proposed search string. Of course, a few sites decided to stay with the format, but those are by far the minority.

    I know one things for sure, if I post a long list of search strings here I'd better get major thanks for it..:p Lol..

    Ok seriously, here a few for some not so "major" platforms that will get you started.

    XMB-"Powered by XMB" inurl:action=viewpro&member
    YaBB "Powered by yabb" inurl:action=viewprofile
    Xoops "Powered by XOOPS" inurl:userinfo.php
    VB 4 "powered by vbulletin" inurl:entry.php

    Hopefully this gives you an idea of how to find them on your own..

    Gary..

    yeah, if you already have your keywords then it shouldn't be too hard to find forums that you're looking for

    keyword + forum
