Does anyone know why in Google webmaster tools, my profile links dont show as links, however most of my blog comments do? Is this just a coincidence?

All the profile backlinks are indexed (Around 600 of them) and showing in site explorer, however only around 40 are showing in webmaster tools.

Are those profile backlinks old ? It may take up to 1 month for them to show up in webmaster tools.

Also imo, even webmaster tools don't show all backlinks, if they are highly similar they are not shown even if the pages are indexed.

Looking at Google webmaster tools for a guide to which backlinks count, is like using the "links:" search command in Google -- pointless

Google has no reason to give a full or accurate picture of one's backlinks.

As Tom said, Google i believe does not give the full data one's backlinks. I have a 4 months blog where non of my profile backlinks are showing in webmaster tools. but is on the first page of google on a fairly competitive term. I only did about 10 social book mark and rest,80 % i believe, profile links from high PR sites!

Blog commenting I believe get indexed quite fast in comparision to profile. Not sure why, but i have experience similar results like Adam. May be its because google spiders visit active blogs quite often.
Can't wait to find the answer on this thread! any comments from warriors with similar experience?

I am only considering Yahoo site explorer stats when I want to the number of backlinks I do have for my sites since Google has never shown the correct number of links pointing towards my sites(hasn't even got closer to the number )

As the others have said, Big G's webmaster tools will never show you ever single backlink, only a sample.

However, your post has me curious. I've never bothered to check but I wonder if there are certain backlink types that never show up no matter what. And if they don't show up, could it be a source that google doesn't like?

I'm not really sure if it would matter since webmaster tools will show nofollow backlinks and those aren't supposed to be counted at all, so who knows what is going on at the googleplex. Most likely bored engineers screwing with our heads.

That is my thinking, my profile links dont show up fast at all, however blog comments do, however blog comments have obviously been discounted, but then you have people who can testify 1000000 times over to the effectiveness of profile backlinks... It is most likely nothing, I mean if the pages with my links are getting indexed, then in theory I have nothing to worry about... Right?

I agreed, Profile links won't get indexed soon, So many people do pinging and do social bookmarking for the profile pages, I don't suggest that. It's really good to get indexed by google naturally. .

And also, changing username and using it for profiles is a really good option, So that google bots can't find that these are not from the same person. . Hope you guys got my point :p Shoot if you have any questions. .

        Thank you

    They do work.

But google is always working at fighting spammy methods and they are aware of these methods and how they can manipulate rankings so it would be common sense to think that they might do something about it.

    Will they, who knows.

It wouldn't be hard for them to throw in a filter for vBulletin profiles or whatever and in doing so it's not going to cause a drastic shift to most websites, it's only going to effect those of us who are using those profiles as a means of search engine manipulation.

Maybe they have discounted these types of links and we aren't aware of it yet.

Only the all knowing google knows.
