Any change in adwords google slap recently?

by ikuret75 6 replies
I was using adwords about 2 years ago and I was slapped hard and all my QS went down or something (I forgot details) and I stopped using it.
(I had a long sales letter and I sold an info product)

I remember a lot of other info products (e-books etc) long sales pages were slapped around that time.

Also, I remember very short landing pages (just for getting lists kind of types) had very low quality scores too. So a lot of info products sellers had hard time around that time.

Has the situation changed or still the same?

I'm asking this because sometimes Google changes its policy and I see some long info product sales letters or just for getting e-mail list landing pages more recently from Adword's links.

Thanks!

That slap was because there was no relevancy between landing page content and targeted keywords.

I keep avg 7+ quality score (with 200+ keywords) on 450 words landing pages quite easily so i think that earthquake was a one time clean up.

      Hi, Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure about this. Actually my market was Japan so the situation might have been different. I had a top-level adwords consaltant (who actually had some connections with G) at that time and he told me most of his clients who sold info product got slapped regardless of the keywords. My keywords were very relevant to my product. QS of ALL the keywords I used went down to 1 after a couple of days. (in the beginning it stays high)

      Hmmm.

this would more than likely be due to several reasons, the first on the list is your site was thin, no supporting pages, about us , privacy etc etc. these will attract a slap me silly from the big g, check that first and then see how things go.

It also very normal for a site to "bounce" when you first set it as it will often show high then drop.

This will more than often be within the first 24 hours in most cases but not all, if you do get slapped delete those poor rated keys and do not pause them, as pause mode is in effect still operational in g eyes.

Believe me, I got all those necesity pages covered.

And at that time ALL info products disappeared from at least Japanese Adwords at least for 3 months. After that I didn't check.

OK good stuff next was it a make a million gazillion $in 2 days or a miracle cure type site , ? a shady site that offered a sign up for free then a whopping recurring billing whamo ? was it a bridge page for an affiliate product ? there would be a reason why it dropped ?

anyway to your post the terms are pretty well straight forward on g's site so if you check those you should be good to go.

No - it is tips about how to study English effectively. Nothing like you mentioned.
And, as I said, (at least almost) ALL the info products - mostly downloadable Ebooks at that time- disappeared from the Adwords network, and it was a big deal in Japan. I thought it was similar in English market but seems it wasn't. It was strange for a while because most ads you got from G was some kind of info products, but now that they were all gone some products you had never seen before came up on top page on Adwords. It was kind of funny to see.

My consultant did meet Google staff (because he's certified or something like that) and asked the question directly to them and they said they couldn't answer the question. But they admitted that it's not just Adwords TOS that affecting it.

Again, I think it is Japan specific.
