How to find the REAL # of Competing Pages

The only number I use is the one I get when I search for my keyword or keyword phrase, using the "AllinTitle" search prefix.

Try it out, you'll see what I mean.

Any comments would be appreciated.

I know that trick too, LOL

What I'm talking about though, is finding the number of relevant competition. I've found great success using this function in conjunction with the Exact Match function in the Adwords Keyword Tool

Frank, if I got this correct, you don't consider #1 or #2 etc results as your competition because they don't have all keywords in the title tag?

No, not at all. I do consider them.

I'm simply saying that the allintitle function helps me find keywords that are easier to rank for, assuming they have some minimal search volume that makes them worthwhile

If #1,2,3 etc, don't have my keyword phrase in their title then I know they are achieving their ranking based more on backlinks that on site seo

Well, again, if I got it right, you're not, because they are not included in your specific query.. Maybe I'm just tired, can you give me an example

It doesn't always have to be about backlinks, it can be Trust and Authority only...

I think the idea is really good. Because the sites which are on page one because of their on site seo are probably easier to beat than the sites doing much off site seo work.

Exactly my point. In addition, lets not forget the google ranks pages not sites, yes they do give PR Rankings to sites, but their search results are pages within siyes.

So I want to know how many other pages have my keyword phrase in their title, they are my direct competition, because google assumes that is what the entire page is about.

If #1,2,3 etc, don't have it in any of their page titles, then I have a better chance of out ranking them if I have it in mine, even with the same amount, or slightly lower amount of backlinks.

People can have all the theories they want about seo. Google is never going to reveal all the factors considered by the algorithym, so I can only go from experience.

I have one site, which I built around this technique, that opened up, right after being indexed, at #1 page 1 and its still there 4 months later. So for me it works, if others don't agree thats fine, this is still a free country.

          Peace

And why exactly would you do that?

Not sure that's a good way of evaluating your competition.

Competition and All in title comp are completely different.

Competition is how many pages Google has indexed for that specific keyword, All in title is how many people use the exact keyword in their title.

Both numbers are important, but if you find a low Allintitle, you WILL be able to penetrate the market much quicker!

 So, those people are not Competition ?
j/k They all are competition to me...
#1 or #5, page 2, with quotes or without, etc <= competition.

So, you are telling us that

      Allintitle:keyword1 = SERP 100

is ALWAYS easier to outrank than

      Allintitle:keyword2 = SERP 1000

      ??

I have done the 'allintitle:' search query, as well as the 'allinurl:' plus putting the keyword in quotes. They are all interesting information, but not what you need to know to get your site in a position for searchers to click on it.

Your prospects will more than likely just put their query in the search box, so that is what you need to do to find out what you need to get there. The only competition is those on the first page. You have to evaluate them to see if you can do better than them. They have already beat out those on the following pages. So all you need to do is, do better than those first page results. Then you have beat out all the ones that follow too. And that is where you need to be to get the best traffic stream.

You need to find out the average PR of those pages, how many of them have keyword in title, how many of them have keyword in URL, and the number of back links each site has. The Traffic Travis free tool works pretty good for this, and you can see the chart with green check marks and red 'X's The more red 'X's you see the better. I am sure there are other tools that do this, in fact I know there is. Traffic Travis is free. I am not going to give a link here, as you can find it by searching for it in Google if you want it.

Anyway, that is the opinion of someone that doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to IM, but prove me wrong if you doubt me. I have read a lot, and this is the conclusions that I have reached from my research.

The last time I tried going back through the pages of the SERP as far as I could, it doesn't ever let you go past page 500. When you get there, they tell you that if you haven't found what you're looking for yet, you really should try another search XD

you must of course prove for yourself if your claim is right by simply doing some tests. for me the most important fact for competition being tough is their number of backlinks having the keyword
