Hello freinds
I am tring to optomise my site but it seems there is lot of competition, I want to know how to target for specific key words like - city of chicago transportation or transport center chicago, there may be less targetted trafic for these words but it would be much easier to get on top pages quickly ? Do i have to have these words in my page tile or can it be any where on the page and that will sufficiant for less targetted keyword.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks a lot

    Hey Chicagolimo,

Yes, the more "long-tail" the keyword, the easier it is going to be to rank at the top of Google when someone types in that keyword.

Some "On-Page" things you need to do...
    1) Have the keyphrase in the "title tag" for that page
    2) Have the keyphrase in your "header tags" (h1, h2, h3 etc...) on that page
    3) Put the keyphrase in your "meta description"- the description that is shown in the search engines
    4) Put keyphrase in the "meta keywords"
    5) Put keyphrase in the actual URL if you can.
    6) have the keyphrases naturally occurring in your your text on the page.

    ...etc...

But that's a good start to making sure you're "on-page" SEO is taken care of. Other people may have some good suggestions...

    Hey,

I think you have to use a keyword which comes on any persons mind when he want to transport anything from or to Chicago like chicago transportation etc.

    good luck

...but I don't think you should be targeting "Chicago Transportation" AT ALL.

That's a very very broad keyword that could entail planes, trains and automobiles...and ten speed bicycles.

How about "Chicago limousine rental", "Chicago limousine rentals", "rent a limousine Chicago", etc.

Jeff already gave you lots of great tips.

In order to have a chance to rank for any keyword on page and off page optimization is vital. Although having high competition will require a ton more work, it is possible to hit the page #1.

This will require tons of backlinks, and research on your competition. You must know what type of backlinks your competition has built, and how many backlinks. If they were able to get backlinks at certain spots, then you will most likely be able to do the same.

The more external pages that point to your url, the higher chance you will have in ranking higher in the search engines. The higher quality the links, the faster you will climb.

It all depends on your budget, your free time, and patience.

To target a specific keyword, first you have to make a page title and meta description which is relevant to the targeted keyword, then start off page optimization to get ranked that keyword.

    Off page Optimization includes:
    1- Directory Submission
    2- Social Bookmarking
    3-Blog Commenting
    4-Forum posting and many more.

And the main thing is that the keywords which you want to target is a short tail keywords or a long tail keywords!

Hey Chicagolimo, I did a small research on your terms. First thing you need to know is to get some exact search data on the keywords/terms you wish to rank. I had a bit of time to look over them and this is what I got:

The problem I see here is that most of these terms I checked have a very low exact search volume, also the competition on first page is pretty tough, most of the Average Authority I checked are on red, so I assume there are some pretty established sites on page 1.

Even so, if the competition was low and you ranked spot #1, from these terms you'd receive a very low amount of traffic.

There may be some terms that receive good exact searches but you have to dig a bit deeper to find them.

    I hope this helped you.
