moniker is good to work with. I know there are people that have there problems with any of the major guys, but I actually like most of them. I regularly use moniker, namecheap, and godaddy. The only one I stay away from anymore is 1and1. They have horrible customer service. I do not have the time or energy to go into the nightmares I have been through with them.

I wish I'd seen your post earlier. I opened a 1and1.com account and I bought hosting from them. The only way to get the hosting was to pay for 6 months up-front.

I sincerely don't like the control panel. A key thing is that I want to run a blog with my domain, but the choice is to either have the blog on the front page or to set a sub-domain for it. I'm not convinced this is the best way to go. Next, the only blog choice is so limited. I have my choice of about 10 templates and that's all. Plus, I can't figure out how to customize them. All said, I'd have to agree to stay away from 1and1.com for hosting at least.

I keep playing around with domain registrars. I have a site on BlueHost.com. I like their cpanel. Easy to use.

If you are looking for customer service, you might try globat.com. I purchased a domain from them the other day. The next morning I received a phone call from them asking if they could help in any way. That I like!

i agree with you, i bought a domain for 0 $ then i find out it was worthless cause i cant change hosting.

      besides no support at all.

so that moniker.com price is no strings attached then? $ 7.79 a year?

I think you really need to just find what works best for you. Many hate godaddy and I swear by them for domains. I just prefer them and they work very well for me. Find what works best for you I say.

I prefer name.com above all those, but to each their own.

GoDaddy's whole upsell process I absolutely hate.

    Namecheap

free whois for the first year, like $2/year afterwards
their is always coupons so domains cost ~$8.50/year
1 year free of an httpS certificate
    best interface by far

Namecheap are great and I use them to register MOST of my domains, but there's one important thing you need to know about them - they will try to steal good domains. If you find a really high traffic, exactmatch.tld domain - forget Namecheap, go to Moniker.

edit: not talking out of my ass here - happened 3 times to me.

Moniker is great, they are worth trying out. They also hold the biggest auctions as well for domain sales.

I'm using them and you can't beat the price with them. I like their clean and simple interface. Got about 20 domains now with them and planning to move some of my old godaddy or expiring namecheap domains to internet.bs

I'll give another vote for name.com. Picked up an ORG on Monday for about $7 and free whois privacy with the coupon FREEWHOIS (normally $2).

because internetbs.net is 7$ per year and with private whois and no coupon

that is why im asking and namecheap is not cheap at all.

  • I have used Godaddy and namecheap for registration and probably would stick with name cheap as I agree that the upsell with Godaddy gets a little bit overbearing at checkout.

I will add another vote to Namecheap. I have used several others in the past, but have liked namecheap the most.

Last week, I purchased a free .com domain from 1and1. It took about 24 hours to confirm the domain and their support is horrible.

Is 1and1 pathetic in the long run ?

I agree. I am slowly but surely transferring over my existing personal domains to namecheap. I like their Custom Nameserver Registration service which comes free with the domain.

In my opinion, Hover is the best domain name registration service provider and Tucows Inc. is the best domain name registrar. Hover, the retail division of Tucows Inc., represents the successful merging of Domain Direct, It's Your Domain (IYD), and NetIdentity.

I've transferred all of my domain names to Hover. Their customer service is superb as it is not tier based (whoever answers the phone can help), their interface is free of spam and very intuitive, and I've found the quality of their services to be top notch.

If I were to choose between Godaddy, NameCheap and Moniker, then Moniker would win hands down. Its prices has never been that low and it is in a different league altogther. It has a sterling reputation among domainers and is in almost the same league as Network Solutions, Register.com and eNom itself. Its security is reputed to be among the best in the business. That is why domainers are willing to entrust their most valuable domains to them.

A few times (3 to be exact) when I tried to register a really good exactmatch.tld domain (keywords with 24k+ exact searches), they would show it as available, then once you get to the final payment window it doesn't go through and gives you a "domain not available~unknown error" or something similar. I just hop over to Moniker (asap) and register them without any problems. Happened three times now.

Namecheap is by far the best and most reliable. Domain registration prices were increased by Verisign just a few days ago so all domain registrars will have to follow suit.
