How reliable is the Google traffic estimator?

Hi,

I'm just getting started in affiliate marketing and I want to set up a squeeze page around a tight set of keywords. I'm just wondering how reliable others have found the Google traffic estimator to be?

Have you found it to over estimate, under estimate, or just be all over the place, and a complete waist of time?

I don't want to set up a whole marketing system targeted at a specific niche based on the traffic this tool suggests I'll get if it's consistently wrong.

Oh, and if it's naff, do you know of a better one you can suggest?

Thanks for your help,

Jake

It's a pretty good order of magnitude, but it's a statistical estimate that is no better than any other statistical tool (such as wordtracker)

I have seen keywords with significant traffic and a nearly zero estimate by Google.

The accuracy is much better for keywords/keyphrases with a large demand.

If you need a really estimate, you can place an adword ad.

The traffic estimator is honestly really bad. Sorry

Just change your bid slightly and watch how Google claims that you can get rank 1-3 for almost no $.

Any smart business (Google) wants more customers, right ? hehe

It seems sometime in the recent past Google has eliminated some information from the tool like low/high click per day and low/high CPC, but I guess that doesnt matter too much if the data is not accurate anyway?

Perhaps just use it as rough estimate to start (but only if the data can be verified..how=high volume, or to be determined) but just start testing your own words which is what the above posts imply I think anyway.

It is difficult to reliable on the data but it is just estimation.

Unfortuantely i must agree with most, the data you get from all these different kwyword tools that estimate traffic and competition seem to always get it wrong.

What i do is get data from a few different sources and average it out and this data seems to be a bit more reliable.

for PPC the only way is to spend 10 or 20 bucks to get real time data, it is a cheap alternative if you are looking for peace of mind

plus you could test your headlines at the sae time, play around and have fun with it.
