  • There are a few answers to this. Assuming you are looking for SEO value to send links between sites.... over time it can add up to Google and may penalize you. I've had some of my sites slammed for that reason.

Another answer is, if you have a few sites... spread them out on dynamic IPs. That works for our team all day long. Call you host to get more info. It's an easy thing to do on their end if they are set up right. This is... however if you are going to be hard core at SEO and interlinking.
  • agreed, never run all the sites on the same IP that you plan on linking, because your essentially building a link farm in Googles eyes, and they hate that. You need each site on it's own c-class IP with it's own DNS records, if you plan on linking them together.
  • If you're building a link ladder or link farm, I recommend not useing the same IP for your traffic directing sites. Do a search for SEO Web Hosting to get hosts that offer seperate IP addresses....

    • This would be a myth, it's not true and not a requirement by Google or any other search engine.

  • What about having 2 different adsense accounts within the same ip range. Would that be a red flag?

I have a dedicated server with about 20 sites. 4 of them have adsense for my account. I have a friend who wants me to help him out and host his 5 sites which are setup with his own adsense account. I am concerned doing that would look suspicious.

    • It's so very hard to bust this myth.
Even when you tell people the warrior forum is
on shared hosting with 7 others.

Even when they find that their blogspot blogs
      are hosted with 3,000+ others.

Even when they find that squidoo lenses are
      on the same server.

I don't have any free wordpresses, but I'll bet
      it's the same.

And when you bring up subdomains, which are
treated as separate domains, the myth really
      falls apart.

This is just another magic pill that people who don't
want to spend the time doing real SEO swallow.

All my stuff is on the same domain. High PR, high ranking,
all interlinked. But I do stuff that google wants, first
and foremost. I ignore the rest.

Look at some logic. If godaddy has a zillion hosted sites,
what are the chances that you get backlinks from sites
on the same servers? The odds are great across the internet,
as godaddy is not the only one with a zillion sites on the same
      server.

  • I would avoid interlinking them as well, google usually finds out eventually and then you may find all of your hard work is gone in an instant!

    • Google penalizes you for stupid things.
      Multiple sites, same content.
      Dumb content, dumb sites.
      Spammed links.
      Nothing but copied content.

Not for choosing to publish legitimate sites that
are not looking to pull one over on google.

You choose to play with the fire of google, you
will get burned. But not for mundane things like
      using the same server.

Even if you put the same site on similar domains across
multiple servers, you think that's really going to pass?

Stop trying to fool, schmooze, and con google and do
      real SEO.

If you think having different IPs makes junk sites better,
      go broke getting them.

If you have 100 sites and try interlinking them all, that's bad
news. But not because they are on the same IP.

And if you think tons of backlinks from the same IP hurts, please
delete your sig file here. There's nothing wrong with tons of links from
      trusted websites.

      Here's a quote from google:
It's all about value, which, sadly, gets buried.

  • I have to agree. Don't try to fool anyone because it will never work for you long term.
Do REAL work, with real information and you'll be safe.
  • VERY bad actually. You are basically asking to get deindexed that way.
  • For SEO? It's normally recommended to have them on different hosting/servers

    • It still boggles my my how and why people come
up with all sorts of schemes to fool google. or
      at least smear the results.

Different IPs don't matter. Do stupid stuff,
google will slap you. You choose to interlink
sites for the wrong reason, chances are that's
not the only thing wrong you are doing.

Not sure why people never want to concentrate
on hard work, relevancy, valuable content, quality
      structure, and quality backlinks.

If all your sites are quality, stand alone websites,
      they'll pass in a heartbeat.
