Hi All

I know it's only Yahoo so I'm not excited, more curious. Anyone done much research into Yahoo SERPs or have any idea how Yahoo thinks and how this could happen?

I haven't even started pushing this site yet, just got my content and on page SEO going, RSS's and pinged.

Site Age: 7 days
Actual Content on Site: 4 days
Amount of Content: 5 pages
Backlinks: 1

Yahoo Position: #7
Google Position: nowhere to be seen! (but it is indexed)

Google Competition: 1 mil
Google Searches: 12,000 / month
Avg CPC: $4

I have a .org keyword domain and what I think is pretty good on page SEO but even so, position #7 in 4 days with 1 backlink....anyone...???

Cheers

  • Interesting. With 1 million results, that's not TOO competitive but nothing to scoff at either. I think this is definitely due to the keyword domain, those tend to help a great deal, especially with a newer site. That, along with the on-page seo might have done it for you.

I have also seen pages boost to page one when they are new and fall back over the next few weeks before climbing their way up the rankings naturally over time.

    • It depends wholly on the keyword.

Real competitiveness is not how many results there are, but how many of them are SEO'ed for the given term.

  • Is it an exact match domain?
  • Thanks for the input guys.

As most mentioned, only the first few SERP pages are what I would call well optimized (for the term) so obviously that's helped a lot. Most have a healthy number of backlinks so really looks like Yahoo does place a lot more weight on SEO.

And yes Shaktimaan, it is an exact match domain which again points to big SEO score for Yahoo.

Thanks again for the input fellas.

    Cheers
  • I have seen keywords that have millions of search results but very little people competition for exact keyword-terms so maybe this is the case. Also, I have bought a domain that when I index it slams me in page 1, then I find out it had a backround that went away because website was inactive and then all links started showing up again.
  • you must have discovered a new niche. Try to find a product to sell that will monetize your Goldmine.
  • From my experience, Yahoo gives a lot of emphasis for the domain name and on page optimization instead of off page optimization.

For example, do a search for this phrase "lookup unlisted phone numbers" without the quotes on yahoo and google separately. Look at the difference of results. On google, the only sniper site is #10 on 1st page. All the others are authority sites. In contrast, on yahoo, the top 5 are sniper sites whose domain name is optimized for the above phrase.
I think this is your situation as well!

    • Thanks Chucky, that's the conclusion I am coming to as well.

Site is still not in Google top 20 but has moved up to #6 on Yahoo and I still haven't started up my backlink machine

Thanks eugenedm, the site is loaded with Amazon products so we'll see how she goes. (the main keyword is a product keyword)

      Cheers
