Okay to change Godaddy shared IP to dedicated IP?

I have a few Website Tonight GD sites, small sites. A couple of them are my best sites for SEO. One of them is my primary site. I was thinking of changing to a dedicated IP. Will this mess up any SEO rank I have achieved over the past two years; I don't want to hurt what I have. It will cost about $3/mo per site.

Lastly, I could get a SSL for slightly less money. Would it be the same effect, which one should I do, if any?

A dedicated IP with a decent host will probably boost your SEO ranking. It won't drop for sure. Go for it!

Anyone know the answer to my last question in the first post? Would buying an SSL achieve the same thing as a dedicated IP? Assuming that this does help SEO. Of course, if it doesn't, let me know that, too.

Again, I can buy SSL cheaper than a dedicated IP. But my registrar said that an SSL has its own dedicated IP, so, I gain the value of that (if any) and also, the value of having an SSL, with regards to security benefits. (Some people might be more apt to fill in a Contact Me form if it's on SSL?)

Warrior forum is on shared hosting.
You think it ranks in the top ten, normally
#1 or #2, on air? Now what did you say about boosting
rankings by being on a dedicated server?
        Why spend the bucks?

Boosting ratings by dedicated server is one
of those myths for SEO that people do when
they refuse to hear that hard work is really
what counts. They don't want to hear that.
So they go to some magic bag of SEO tricks
and go broke, get frustrated in the process.

There is no reason for any normal website to
have a dedicated server. It is expensive and
for sites with a ton of constant traffic. That
would be the only reason for having a dedicated
server--if you had too many online at once.
The chances of that happening are slim to none.

Like I said, how many people are here at one time?
Every myth out there is usually broken by looking at
how the warrior forum does business.

However, you should ditch godaddy for a whole host
        of other reasons.

Huh? Are we on the same page? Are you talking about a dedicated server? I am talking about a dedicated IP address... static IP. I can get SSL for $13/year.

And, what is wrong with Godaddy? What is better? Fill me in if something is better. Godaddy has excellent support, I'll say that. As good as I have ever seen in any industry.

I haven't used Godaddy for hosting. Hence, I can't comment on its performance. However, it appears from your comments that Godaddy is good in hosting too.
Just thought to inform you that many sites hosted on Godaddy were infected with malware couple of weeks back. Hope yours were alright.

I prefer Hostgator for hosting and Godaddy for domain registration.

Total Bullsh*t... Whether you use a shared IP or dedicated IP has absolutely NO bearings on your site's SEO and rankings. Switching from shared to dedicated IP will neither help nor hurt your rankings.

The reason you "might" want to consider a dedicated IP is that IF you have a site that you depend on to make money or otherwise run some type of business, the $2-3/month that you spend can go a long way towards buying you some peace of mind.

When you use shared hosting you NEVER know what other webmasters have been put on the same server as you. If you happen to get placed on a server at Godaddy with another dubious webmaster who has a 1000 site link farm under their account, for example, and Google discovers what they are up to, Google will sometimes simply decide to penalize the entire IP rather than try to figure out the exact 1000 sites that are part of the farm. The amount of time it would take to locate the handful of legitimate sites (like yours) at that IP address is simply not worth the effort to them.

Once you discover that your traffic from Google has dried up and figure out that you've been penalized, it could be days or weeks. Yes... you can submit a Reconsideration Request and explain that you feel you have been unjustly penalized and ask them to manually review your site. They'll likely look at your site and lift the penalty for your site on that IP... flag your site as an exception for the IP penalty. But again this could take weeks. This is all time when your site is getting no traffic from Google which means NOT having a dedicated IP has cost you money.

If you're considering dedicated vs. shared, there is absolutely NO difference from an SEO perspective. The ONLY advantage to dedicated IPs is the peace of mind that you get from the prevention of those rare but very real and very detrimental to business "guilt by association" penalties.

Okay, so... is an SSL the same as a dedicated IP in this regard?
