Hi.

Is it important robot.txt is uploaded to improve SERP? One site is on page 19, where has been for 3 weeks even though its an exact keyword domain and competition is non existant. Content on page(s) is ok and some backlinks through ezine articles.

I have 2 sites in one niche and am not keen for google to find out they both belong to me. (They are both different, 1 for Adsense other for Amazon). Maybe they might not like the idea of the same person ranking for the same keyword?

On google webmaster, is it against the T&C to open 2 separate accounts. I think this is all paranoia on my part.

Thanks.

Jim.

No. Some people advocate using robots.txt to block bot access to unimportant parts of your site (a form of PR sculpting), but I wouldn't worry about it.

If this worries you, consider investing a bit in keeping your registration / whois info private.

    No, it's fine.

    Thanks.
Very welcome, but that's what the thanks button is for.

This is not DigitalPoint, please don't repeat things that have already been said, just so you can up your post count and plug your sig links. Contribute meaningfully!

Robots.txt doesn't provide any value to improve SERP. But you can use it to keep google from indexing your less important pages such us privacy policy, contact us, etc. Sometimes these pages may rank higher than your content pages. It happened to me.

Thanks for the clarification. Just wondering though though, does submitting site to google in any way improve SERP? I am thinking no.

Yeah, I think so too. But having a Google Webmaster tool setup can help you keep track of your SEO effort. It really doesn't make much diffrence but you can also change Googlebot's crawling rate, setup preferred domain, etc.
