Adsense is not being relevant

Do backlinks with your keywords in them help increase the relevancy of adsense ads on your site or are the ads based solely on the content of your site?

Say for example I've got a site about renting Jet Skis but all of the ads that are showing are about renting Apartments. Obviously that's no good.

It's a pretty new site, will relevancy increase with time?

  • The ads are based on the site content. Chances are you've used the word "renting" or "rental" several times in the text and that is being interpreted as home rentals.

    Go to your adsense account and look up section targeting and add that script to your site and the ads should target better within in a few days.

    However, when I google

    rent jet skis

    only four ads are showing. More ads show for "jet ski rental" (without quotes).

  • I agree. Contents should adhere to to the ads, but backlinks also contribute.


  • oh sorry, my site is about renting something but jet skis was just a random example.

    I never heard of 'section targeting'. Looked it up and implemented it. Thank you.
