Extra Keywords in Title

Hello, I was wondering... If you have extra stuff in your title, does it hurt your ranking for your primary keyword? Let me explain.

Say your main keyword is: mountain dew
Say your secondary keywords are: pop, drink, caffeine

Would you rank higher for mountain dew, if your title was only "Mountain Dew", and nothing else (such as "Mountain Dew Pop Drink with lots of Caffeine")

This obviously isn't what I'm trying to rank for, just an example
I hope my explanation makes sense

Thanks!

    Forget about fooling google.
Your title should be a short phrase as to what
your site is about. Nothing more, nothing less.

Your example is not keyword stuffing if:
Mountain Dew Pop Drink with lots of Caffeine
is what the page is about. In fact, that title would
be a perfect example of one that would work.

However, don't do anything with fooling search
engines in mind. That's why I would first warn you
to stop thinking about keyword stuffing but keyword
    optimization.

I have tested this before with over 10 sites, and my main keyword would rank a bit lower when it is diluted with extra words. Ranked higher when I switched back to just my main keyword, and lowered again when I tried to dilute it with extra keywords again.

Focus more on crafting a compelling title that people want to click on. You'd be surprised how much more benefit you'll get from a compelling title than one with a bunch of keywords in it.

      For example:

Quench Your Thirst With A Delicious Mountain Dew.

  • I recommend a title which grabs the attention of the reader. You can make it using your keyword or even without it. It depends. But do not unnecessarily try to stuff keywords just to improve ranking. It can have the opposite impact as well. Search engines of today are damn smart to catch such things

  • Using only your keyword may give you a lil bit better rankings, but using extra words like in your example would bring more clicks on your link. Now you decide
