Google Content Clicks vs. Search Clicks

I seem to be getting most of my clicks through Google's Content Network rather than through their Search Network. Should I be concerned?

On the one hand, I cannot complain I am getting a healthy number of clicks; however, I was hoping I would receive more clicks via Search...

Would you say there is a difference in a user's intent to purchase a product when they see an ad via the Content Network vs. Search Network (off the cuff I would say yes as search means they are more or less in the market for that specific product, right?)

  • I don't know the answer, but I surmised as you did about a week ago, and I turned off content clicks. I didn't even know what it was, it just set it up by default. But at the price I pay per click in my niche, I didn't want content clicks. I only want clicks where they are more inclined to purchase. The search engine pulls a fast move when they put that on there by default. At least, I don't recall requesting it.

    • Yes, Google sets "Networks: All" as the default - of course for Google they want more clicks (more money for them.) I plan on doing an analysis on which has a higher purchase rate: Search vs. Content - I think this a good way of determining whether or not the Content Network is worth it.
  • I would tend to gravitate more to The Content Network as the clicks are cheaper. The prospect is seeing the ad and it enticed them to click it to see more. In all likelihood they ended up on that site after doing a search for your keyword, and they either read the site and didn't find what they wanted and clicked your ad, or they saw your ad first and it spurred them to click it. I don't see why they would be less likely to make a purchase than anyone else.

    Just my $0.02 and worth exactly what you paid for it. But if it doesn't make you think, then I wasted my time typing it.
