Does Anyone Else Use Yahoo Answers To Get Back Links?

I've been spending some time on Yahoo Answers, answering questions, building up my score, and then placing links to my site in the "Sources" box...but after a couple of weeks, I'm not sure how effective this is. I'm not seeing my back links show up and I'm not sure whether these links wind up being "do follow" or "don't follow."

I know that Yahoo Answers can be a way to get some traffic to your site, but I'm more interested in powerful back links. Does anyone have experience with this? Should it be a part of my SEO strategy?

  • I aggressively did this a couple of years ago then stopped. Till this day I still get tons of visits.

  • I use Yahoo Answers for some of my niches. Not all do well with yahoo answers, but I have a blog in a teen niche that gets 90% of his traffic from YA alone. It takes time to build it up, but if it ends up making you money, it's worth it.

  • Yahoo answer is good for back link but am not sure if it good for traffic. However, if you can rank on top of the serp for your answer, you will surely get traffics.

But be careful Yahoo Answer hate back link builders, at least they want you to contribute value and don't include your link all the time otherwise, you can get ban in the blink of an eye.

  • Does Yahoo answer even give you backlinks?

P.S It is superb for targeted traffic

    • To get a No-Follow backlink from Yahoo Answers, you need to be Level 2 or higher.

Yes, Yahoo answers is good for targeted traffic, but there is reason to believe that a Yahoo Answers no-follow link is liked by Google.

I've seen good SEO benefits from getting no follow YA links. Not that I have any proof................. besides the hundreds of domains I've tested.

  • If you are doing it for SEO purposes, the ROI of your efforts is close to none. First of all, the link is nofollow. Second, 1k backlinks from the same root domain is useless. They get discounted. You need backlinks with domain authority and domain diversity and in this case you do not even get the authority part of the equation.
  • Its nofollow, so counts nothing for link juice. Just because a nofollowed link shows up in the backlink sample that Google show does not mean that google are giving you any credit for that link. See the Matt Cutts video where he said that.

    • The way I play YA is to get the page ranked for keywords like "cheap niche product". I pose a question that asks something like "Where can I buy cheap niche product?" and throw a couple links at it. It has sent me quite a few sales.

  • I do not know how effective it is today and I hear it is much harder to get links to stick, but I still get traffic from dropping links at YA over 3 years ago.
  • YA banned me a while back for link spamming a few accounts. Too lazy to go after them harder. lol
  • go on you have nothing to loose but careful to spam, yahoo will suspend your account.
  • YA is best for targeted traffic , and if yourr answer selected as best answer on paticuler question you will get all the visitors who search for that questions . I like YA for the targeted traffic it send .
  • Try to use simple question or simple answer. How it was mentioned before. I do the same and it brings good results.
  • I have used YA for about a year now and have seen good results for the little effort put forth. Just make sure you provide quality content and give a solution to thier problem and you will be ok. Especially if you can answer questions not pertaining to your marketing efforts and provide quality content and a solution without a link. I think yahoo likes that!

    3rd link down for me
Such easy traffic when done right.
I look at the high paying terms search for questions to Answer then use plr content to create a blogger blog post with adsense
Takes 5 mins for constant traffic
I am on the highest level.
Main trick is partly answer question and send to different blogger acounts.
Also only answer a couple of questions a day each niche.

  • In my opinion, Yahoo Answers is a great source of targeted traffic, and really useful in ranking for long tail keywords. However, I feel that its got almost no backlink value, as the links are nofollow.
  • I found it negligible return for the amount of time spent, especially when you have to deal with account suspensions for no apparent reason - and they will not explain or reconsider. Once you're suspended, that's it, no matter how good your answers are.

I suspect there are competitors who will flag your posts.
  • I've answered one here and there and provided my site as reference, in cases where I actually DID reference one of my own articles. It can't hurt to throw out a couple of these as long as you don't do it in a spammy way.

    They ARE nofollow though.
  • I was getting about 50 uniques a day. til they banned my account. I guess putting my link in the source eventually caught up to me. haven't bothered again. Can be very time consuming and I don't want to see another banned account.
  • i've been using this before...i dont get much from yahoo answer so i tried other Q&A sites like yedda
  • Yahoo answers give you good targeted traffic. But we ought to be careful of our online reputation since anyone can come and drop in a comment.

Never used it but I use orkut forums instead.
  • It depends on your niche and your target traffic. I have used yahoo answers and plan to use it too. Just create a good reputation and you can bank in if you have a good relevant affiliate campaign to promote. What say?
  • Every link building technique is equally important.
  • For Yahoo answers, just think traffic. You will not get any link love from them.

    • You may not get any 'juice,' per se, since Answers is a nofollow site, but sometimes you will see G counting them as backlinks because their spiders get 'overloaded.' Moreover, you're guaranteed to get indexed super quick.

  • Be careful in putting your links especially nowadays, they are very strict when it comes to S.E.O campaign.

  • I just start doing. Busy build up my score, still level 1. But, I do know Yahoo Answer can bring very targeted visitors. Especially if you know what kind of question that people will interested to find. Of course may be some of the niches is not so popular in Yahoo Answer. So, before start using yahoo answer, can do some study that if the niches is quite popular in Yahoo Answer or not. Another thing is it really indexed new sites very fast.
  • If you are doing yahoo answers to generate backlinks then I can say that you were doing it wrong, because links from yahoo answers are tagged no follow which means it will not pass link juice to your site.
  • Look beyond link building. when you can get traffic from Yahoo answers then why you are putting your effort for only backlinks.

  • I just want to say eff YA. I used it off and on for almost a year, had a level 4 account, only made 4-5 links to relevant blog posts only per day and my account was cancelled because someone flagged all of my answers over two days as spam.

I fought each and every flagged post and asked how they could possibly be spam as I wrote them and only linked to relevant blog posts that had 1 aff link in the sidebar. Some were turned over, but all the rest were labled spam by the retarded reviewer because they didn't bother to check it. Then my account was cancelled because of all my "spamming." I again fought that but they didn't even wait one hour before saying it was closed for good.

Because 1 person flagged all of my answers for two days. No that doesn't look suspicious. Just my account with hundreds of best answers was the suspicious one.
