Question Regarding Smart Pricing

I have a site that has been earning for me fairly well over the past few months since I initially launched it in January.
However, over the past two weeks, I have noticed a substantial decrease in the click value from adsense on the site.

My CTR is unchanged, as is my traffic; so is it safe to assume this site has been smart priced?
If so, when my traffic quality increases via Google's eyes, can I assume the click value will go back to normal?

  • I think yes, the value of click is measured on how your traffic converts for advertisers. The more likely that your traffic performs desired action for the advertiser, the more your click will be worth.

    • It could indeed be - and perhaps the most likely explanation is - that you have been "smart priced". But it could simply be a case that certain advertisers which were competing for ad space/clicks before have suspended or terminated their campaigns or withdrawn ads from your site specifically (if that's possible - I've never really delved into the content network/adsense from the Adwords side).

      Do you pay attention to your ads normally? If so, take a look and see if the advertisers you're used to seeing with some regularity have disappeared or changed.
  • Even if you have in fact been smart-priced it will go back to normal in the next week or so... I have some sites that once in a while get low priced clicks for a few days and then always go back to 'normal' pricing... I rarely check my adsense earnings but this is what I have noticed on a few occasions
  • Here is a good trick...
    1) place all google analytics code in all your pages.
    2) check the conversion of your visitors on each page... (number of visits vs clicks)
    3) remove ads on pages that does not convert well.
    4) Your overall conversion will improve, hence smart pricing will give you higher value per click.
