Hi there.

I am very new to twitter. I have heard so that Twitter is being used for Search Engine Optimization purpose. Is that right?

Well, I personally feel that it is worth wasting time. Still, I have left options to be considered. Can anybody advise me of how to use Twitter for SEO purpose?

Thanks in advance.

i see a lot of people using twitter to promote videos... i think it also has appeal because it is very easily automated and is a great way to fire links out to the world with the possiblity of it taking off in a viral way via the re-tweet function...

I use twitter but I don't use it in any specific ways, I just add links when I have something of interest to say or offer.

I wouldn't know how to use it for SEO purposes so any answers on here would interest me too.

For SEO i believe the re-tweet function is the key... if you post interesting content with a backlink and people like it you will get re-tweet after re-tweet and thus your backlinks will grow along with your ranking.

Going hand in hand with that is hash tags, that will help propogate your links.

As twitter links are nofollowed care to explain how this will actually help your rankings?

SEO = Search Engine Optimization. Care to explain how the nofollow links help SEO?

Twitter is a great way to drive traffic to your website. Twitter and SM sites are word of mouth on steroids. If done correctly you will get nice traffic.

Google is starting to index tweets, so you should get some backlinks from using twitter. However, dont use Twitter to spam people, use twitter to connect with others and use it to create relationships which in return will drive traffic and sales. Earn their trust and listen to them.

Twitter feeds can show on search results on google, and this is what most SEO's want to learn. A well known or popular person's twits are usually indexed by google.

YOu can use twitter for creating awareness of your product, service or creating a brand. Generally it is used for people involvement with your company name(product/service). It is a fastest medium to spread your news and get instant response. Companies are spending millions on social media to generate relevant traffic and increase the brand awareness.

Twitter and SEO. Lots of responses, none on the money.

All tweet are indexed by Google, but the links in them are nofollow, so in and of themselves they don't help your rankings. However:

Tweeting a URL brings Googlebot to the page almost instantly. It's just like pinging the URL, only possibly better.

If you have great viral content on your site, tweeting it to the right audients will cause it to propagate and be retweeted, and this can potentially bring your a lot of secondary links.

Lastly, since "important" tweets have the ability to appear in Google's "real time" search results for a particular keyword.

Those are the possible SEO uses or twitter.

I have heard it too, but it's an urban legend. Companies like SEOmoz constantly test such things, and no reputable source has ever stated that they have found nofollows to convey any value (except for traffic and faster indexation).

Exactly. However, this the part about traffic and indexation DOES have benefit. Lots of time i think people avoid anything that might be "no follow" when in fact it can actually hold some SEO value because you can increase traffic, or get indexed.

Well traffic yes, but any SEO value whatsoever like getting indexed or ranked higher I don't think so. If you are to believe the folks at google, "no follow" means "doesn't count."

I guess it is still good for other engines like Yahoo and Bing, because they don't care about "no follow," but aside from that the links are pretty much worthless from an SEO standpoint.

Thats exactly the thing- i don't follow what the people at google or matt cutts say. In fact, sometimes i like to do the opposite. Matt cutt's job is to get you to think the way that they want you to think.

I've had some good results, but that was not the point that I am making. The point is that doing some things outside of the box can give you a significant edge over your competitors.

"Doesn't count" is too broad, nofollow means no link juice. Certain nofollow links can certainly speed up the crawling of your pages.

I guess it is still good for other engines like Yahoo and Bing, because they don't care about "no follow,"

Twitter links are nofollow so you can't expect to generate backlinks from them. But it's very true that informative postings, videos can help you a lot to get target traffic to your site. Videos specially can help a lot for getting good traffic! Actually if you can provide people something that is very useful and interesting then chances are also there that your postings could get retweeted.

Twitter is a fantastic platform to attract website traffic, The bio is very important, show your strength in the bio, convey the visitor , what you are good at, keep following people related to your field, be helpful, tweet useful information and ideas, don't concentrate too much on promoting business, though you can do that once a while. it's all about building a reputation, once you build it, people will listen to you. reputation can be built by sharing useful and unique contents and information, by sharing your knowledge and expertise. Good Luck

Oh yes, Twitter is a huge social networks having lots of its users. By posting your links, informative data and videos related to your online business, Twitter will be helpful for getting traffic for your website. As twitter has 'no follow' tag so you can't take back links but traffic.

  • Everytime someone posts a link to my page. Spiders crawl my page like crazy. I would say it is great exposure to the web I also notice that when you have link within tiny urls that they do get searched and put into google search. Hope this helps.

    Hi dpfocpankaj
Social media optimization plays a great role in SEO.
In twitter, yes retweets is favorable.Apart from that i would say that go to related communities in twitter and follow its members. They might follow you back.Back links will be generated. It would be great if you retweet community's tweets.
Go to another related website's content and syndicate them to your twitter account.
It helps you for link building.Tweet your latest updates related to your service.
