SEO with Video?

I know images, and especially video, can help a website with conversions, but video and images do nothing for SEO, right? So if this is correct, I should still have a significant amount of written content on my page, with good keyword usage, in order to help it rank well, right? In other words, video and images should not be used to replace the written content if I am trying to get a page to rank well in the search engines.

I'm trying to determine the virtue of video on my web pages. My hunch is that it helps more with conversions than it does with traffic. Any ideas on this?

    Google algorithm thinks like...
    It changes almost everyday...
    Last year they made more than 300 modifications....
    My experience however suggest that video helps in SEO.

    Try it. It is worth the effort.

  • Alt Text images with your Keyword. Title Your Video with your keyword.

    They will get picked up by the Searched engines

      Text content is numero uno if you have a choice.
      If you want to do the video thing, you have to do
      it through a youtube channel. Build links to your
      youtube channel.

      If you have to have videos, put enough text so a
      real person knows what your site is about.

      The world searches for videos on youtube. Don't
      try and be a youtube. Videos can enhance a visitors
      experience, but that's about it.

  • I've tried to drive targeted traffic from Youtube. The title and description down to the file name was optimized. I'm here to say that it doesn't work. If you don't have anything that is really a major interest - your not going to get the traffic.

    Doing e-commerce through youtube is virtually pointless...
  • So I'm hearing...stick to relevant, unique written content to help get traffic (in addition to all the other on page and off page seo). Use the video on the site only to enhance the visitors experience, but support with good written content.

  • Video is not bad for SEO at all. It can even be beneficial if you do it right.

    -Place relevant content sorrounding the video.
    - Besides embedding the video in your page, submit it to YouTube and other video sites.
    - Use a video site map to help Google "read" your videos
    - Key word in title.
    - Make the title of the page where the video is embedded match the title of the video.
    - Use keywords in the file name and URL

  • video itself won't help much in SEO i guess... you still need to have good content in between...

    • Thanks for all the great advice, Warriors. Much more than I expected and gives me a much better idea on how to use my video. And nope, haven't been on Flippa for a couple months.:rolleyes: Don't know who the other guy is, but there is only one Supafly...and it's not Snuka.

    • Hey guys, I'm new on the forum but I've got a bit of experience with seo. All are right, good content is key.

      Title, Description, Keywords, H1 tags <--- should all contain the important keywords for the page.

      Internal Linking <---- Spiders need to be able to access additional pages inside your site so it can detect more keyword content.

      Structure <--- Most important, I've gotten page one with a mostly flash website simply using the right structure.

      I write tips and tricks that I find on blog.fishpunt.com. Know your competitors, its more difficult to fight for placement for "website design" than say "coffee creamer". Combat fire with fire, see what your competitors are doing and do it better.

      Video and image content does help. Think of your webpage as a point system, the more important tags are worth 2 points and less important are worth 1 point. Good content = win.
