HI current debate on a UK business forum regarding whether your site would get any boost from outgoing links, even to social media sites, with Google .
Obviously incoming yes , but putting social media link buttons etc onto your own site , could that help Google rankings in any way

Hi there, I think that one has made its rounds just about everywhere since 2005...

It honestly depends on a large set of factors, without performing an SEO Audit on your site and Specific Competitive Intelligence on your Market / Niche and current Serp Kings for the Primary industry keywords being exact is a little bit tough to be 100% sure.. ( That my disclaimer...)

Anyways Googles Index has just been completely revamped and their new index "GC" has just rolled out once and for all, more trial and testing in the next few weeks will help nail this down taking the new conditions into account...

But here is how I look at it,

all share / social buttons that are put on our testing sites have been both left as the issued code and we have no followed them...

Rankings did better when we no followed them in the 100 or so niches and markets we tested, this was especially apparent in regards to local seo or seo on a national level for small geographic land masses..

For example we ran the same tests for Googles Indexes for Clients in Germany, The UK, Austria, and Switzerland, by no following the links the sites actually did much better for country wide seo,

For larger countries indexes, The US, Canada and Australia the opposite took place.

In the larger countries server Ip location was often a very big trigger for relevance on a local (semi local level ), when the on-page seo was truly "tight"

Regardless, I would avoid linking out via social buttons, if you are trying to help with a trust / authority algo which actually will help boost your rankings I would link out to your chamber of commerce with anchor text that is not competing with your own specific web page.

Hope this can be of some help...

      Regards

I got one for you. How come certain indexed pages on my site do not show up for very specific searches in quotes? I'm talking about whole sentences being copied from target page and searched for in quotes isn't returning my page. I'd like to have someone figure that out. If you want, I'll PM you several examples.

      Hi,

This is actually pretty common, I am assuming your competing primarily in the North American Index of Google based on your location in your profile, If thats an incorrect assumption let me know as it can change things.

This depends on a lot of factors, which will be based around the competitiveness of your niche, and the sites that you are primarily going against.

While your page / pages may be indexed, they are probably not in googles primary index, but their second / third tier supplemental index.

There is a good change that there are still other pages that google has identified as more valuable and relevant to and end user even though you put your query in quotes. While that always worked without flaw up until around 2007, things have changed and Google is so much more advanced then people think...

Bottom-line your websites framework and architecture may have some fundamental flaws and I would be willing guess you have duplicate content issues and keyword cannibalization problems to some level.

I would assume your site was not hand coded as a static site, but more than likely using a cms like wordpress, drupal or joomla.

What you need to do is push a decent amount of page juice to the pages and try the same tests over the next 2-4 weeks and see what kind of changes you see..

What kind of crawl rates and depth does the typical google crawl look like in your raw server logs ?

Hope this can be of some help, and don't worry to much this really is a pretty common issue nowadays..
