Qucik Answer @ Google 'Stop' Words - Please?!

by rbowen 5 replies
(If this isn't the right place to post this, pls let me know.)

Does anyone (really) know whether a dash ("-") is considered a "stop" word?

In other words, will Google ignore it like it would, say, the word "the" in a domain name?

Also, if I have a choice between a long-tail (4-word) DN with dashes & '.net', and the same DN with "The" preceding it with '.com' and without the dashes (making it a 5-word DN), which would be better in Google's eyes?

In other words, which is better:

1) Four-Word-Domain-Name.net
OR
2) TheFourWordDomainName.com ?

Thanks!
Richard

    Thanks.

So, for now I s/b OK, but later I might get hurt by Google for a "small keyword in the domain"?

I'm not sure what you mean by that phrase, though? Are you referring to using a hyphen ("-") or the word "the" ... or both?

BTW, given what you just said, which of those two choices would you go with, then:

    TheBlackCatHairBrush.net

    or

    Black-Cat-Hair-Brush.com ?

    Thanks again,
    Richard

Well she said that Black-Cat-Hair-Brush.com do as well as without hyphen's - often better... So it's just a matter of taste!

Thanks for your "2 cents" my friend. But with all due respect, it's not a matter of taste. Rather, it would depend on whether, by "small keyword in the domain name", she was referring to:

        A) a hyphen ("-"),
        B) the word "the", or
        C) both.

So if it's OK with you, I'll wait to hear from her as to which she meant ... and then decide which "tastes" best.
