Wordpress SEO Question - tags, keywords etc..

Hey Everyone!

I've recently moved from Drupal to Wordpress. I LOVE Wordpress!!!!!

Here's my question:

I just installed the Platinum SEO Plugin. This plugin gives me fields for "keywords" and "description" much like I'm familiar with in Drupal. So, what's the relationship with "Tags" and "Categories" in Wordpress? I thought these were for SEO as well, although I know Categories is also for site organization.

Should I use Tags that are the same as my keywords? How do the Tags interact with the keywords now that I have the SEO plugin?

Also, what settings should use in Platinum SEO to get the best SEO results?

Thanks!

Adam

    Think of tags as keywords.

Matt Cutts has a video where he talks about tags and categories. He said that tags are good, but do not go overboard on them. That if you start using a lot of tags, you might want to add more categories.

Personally, I use tags up to about 3 words long, short simple phrases that people might search for in yahoo, google, bing,,,,.

My personal opinion here - add-on seo plug-ins for wordpress are not needed.

Matt Cutts also said that wordpress takes care of something like 90% - 95% of the needed SEO by default. He only runs 2 or 3 plug-ins, and neither of them are an SEO add-on.

My opinion - the only thing you really need to do is change your permalink structure.

If you do not know who Matt is, he works for Google, and here is a link to his blog about SEO - http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/seo-for-bloggers/

at WordCamp 2007 I recommended a plugin or two dedicated to SEO, but WordPress has made a lot of progress in recent years. You can certainly install stuff like the “all in one SEO pack” and it can help, but the impact tends to be less than it used to be.

If you’re the kind of person that really wants to pay attention to that last few percent of details, feel free to use it. Personally, I don’t bother with it myself. That slide wasn’t “The Five Plugins You Must Install, And Install No Others.” It was just a slide to show “Hey, here are the plugins I like and have installed.”

for me, i do no-index on no-follow on tags to prevent duplicate content with my posts.
