Why Did My New Blog Post Get Noticed So Quickly?

My site is about 3 months old, and I've been blogging on a fairly regular basis (a few posts a week...not much, I know, but it'll increase soon). Anyway, I put up a new blog post this morning, and by noon, it had registered on Google Alerts already. It wasn't a thousand people stampeding to my post, just a couple of other sites linking back to mine, but it's the first time I've seen anything this immediate.

Is this a good sign, or a fluke? Is there any way to know? Thanks!

Ken

  • Ill bet you chose some high demand low competition keywords by cooincidence. Also your blog may be starting to get some authority.

    • Ah OK, thanks. Is there a way I can check my site's authority?

  • Posting regularly will have google coming back much more often and indexing a lot more quickly than posting once a week or less. So keep posting regularly and you'll see your posts getting indexed within hours.
  • It's not a fluke, you probably titled the post (and may have inadvertently done some seo copywriting by making sure the theme of, the gist of the post was keyword centric) and the google alerts notice was likely because of all the people (in the recent time frame) that posted on your topic, YOURS had the most (google) authority (or authority in google's algorithim's eyes).

That can happen more often if you specifically target long tail keywords that have the *right* amount of traffic vs being to being so highly competitive that you don't stand a chance competing with other sites that have an overwhelming amount of google trust/ domain authority. (ever tried to get a page to rank next to the mayo clinic or walmart.com ??)

I liken what we do as being a sportsman fishing guide: clients come in and tell me what kind of fish they'd like to catch... I take them to the part of the pond that has A. has that kind of fish and B. everybody and their brother isn't fishing (of over fishing) that same spot.

We want to be the only ones fishing in that part of the lake so we have all the fish to ourselves.

Once that's done keep changing the bait till you give the fish what they like to eat (alter the salescopy and keep altering it until the fish bite)

    • Excellent info. Thanks guys. I ran another Website Grader on my site and it has gone up according to their score (an 83). The biggest change I see from the last grade on May 29th is that my Alexa Rank went from 5,786,304 (top 18.6%) to 2,852,568 (top 9.173%). Not exactly sure what that means, but it looks like it's a good thing.

      Thanks again!
